suggestion for fixing Apolyton's money problems

Most of the pageviews are probably related to the forums but a lot of the bandwidth may be occupied by downloads. So first, get rid of downloads. Then reduce the bandwidth used by getting rid of ads and weird UBB hacks and convert the forums to a basic text-based branching thread format.

GP: aesthetics need not sacrificed for the sake bandwidth. Most of us return a "not modified" for the graphics anyway. I think the easiest way of trimming bandwidth would be to use CSS styles more extensively. It's amazing how all of those font size="2" face="verdana" tags really add up.

Well I like GPs suggestion, convert the forums into branching threads so no one visits any more and they go out of business, voila, no more money problems

GP, we should just replace you with a bot that just places the words 'install branching threads' now and again

GP my idea is way more practical (and profitable):

I like the "Provost Harrison Gigalo Service for lonely British Women" service as our saving grace. PH donates half of his earnings to Apolyton, meanwhile we use the board and let lonely British women advertise themselves. What do you say PH? Sacrifice for your favorite forums?!?!

Your suggestion is appreciated, but it is not going to adversely affect the online advertising market conditions that are a reality today. In addition, Apolyton is only one site amongst dozens on GameStats which is amongst dozens of gaming networks etc. etc. and there are more cost factors than just bandwidth considerations to be taken into account.

Leaving the downloads on Apolyton, in fact, actually does more good than harm -- it keeps Apolyton on the forefront of Civilization resources on the Internet.
