  • Magic: the Gathering - Use This Card #2

The store had like two Torment boosters left. If you're interested, my rares were Radiate and Ambassador Laquatus.

But I was interested in a slightly variant take on the black faction's toughness-reducing tactics: Waste Away. My question is: would this card be worth using in a mono-black deck, if you already own the likes of Dark Banishing, Ashes to Ashes, Echoing Decay, Sever Soul, etc. ?

Heh, I think I got a Radiate as well in one of my Torment boosters.

Anyway, the short answer to your question: No.

    The long answer: Heck no.

The longer: You're paying five mana to conditionally kill one creature- and you get to discard a card! I suppose the discard part might not be so bad if you're fiddling with Threshold, but there are better cards to do that with (Putrid Imp, or splash blue for Mental Note, etc.). And for any other kind of strategy, it's miserable.

Anyway, I say stick with your old cards. They're cheaper and more powerful. The only possible use I can see is if people in your area are obssesed with playing huge black monsters that can't be Decayed, Banished, or have their soul severed. In that case, I'd recommend getting some Barter in Bloods or Chainer's Edicts, which should work quite nicely.
    All syllogisms have three parts.
Therefore this is not a syllogism.

I agree. It's value slightly increases if you play with some madness cards, praps some red damage like Fiery Temper. Otherwise, what Snowfire said.
      Concrete, Abstract, or Squoingy?

Mono decks are SOL when facing colour-killers (e.g. Conversion), and you probably won't have enough in your sideboard to fix the situation.

Unfortunately, I think I won't be able to trade the Ambassador right now. Maybe some other time.
