  • Condi Rice testifies before 9-11 commission

I watched Dr. Rice testify before the commission this morning. I thought she did quite well. She is a very smart woman.

The funniest part was probably when Kerrey mistook her for Clarke. From the transcript:

    -------------
KERREY: Dr. Clarke, in the spirit of further declassification...

    RICE: Sir, with all...

    KERREY: The spirit...

RICE: I don't think I look like Dick Clarke, but...

    (LAUGHTER)

    KERREY: Dr. Rice, excuse me.

    RICE: Thank you.
    ------------

'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

I don't know. Kerrey must have been thinking about Clarke when he was speaking to Condi Rice.

Confusing a name? It's quite common. He was probably thinking about Clarke just before he said the statement. Happens all the time. I frequently call my roommate by my brother's name, though they bear no physical or mental resemblance.

And now, thanks to the deal, the commission gets no chances to follow up with any of her underlings...

          Sweet deal, that one.

            That was awesome

I also liked the guy asking Condi 10 different questions beginning with the same phrase.. how fun

Dr. Rice sure is a smart person, would make an awesome president of the US
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

Condie came off better than I thought she would, in the parts I saw.

Actually, she's probably the best person the Admin could've sent out. Midway through, Cheney would have had a heart attack, Bush would've changed the topic to misrememberings of Texas quotes, and any other member would have let some serious sh!t slip. But Condie seemed to handle it alright -- unless I turned off the TV right before something important.

And the name confusing thing? Hell, I do it all the time, Ag.

DD -- I think Boris explained it pretty well how people can slip like that momentarily.

If you read the trascript, it seems like Kerrey makes the mistake several times. He must have really been thinking about Clarke.

Form the parts I saw, I can't help but think she's been set-up, in that they advised her to point the finger as much as possible to the intelligense gathering offices.
Who now of course are going to retaliate. I don't expect to see her back even if Bush2 does.
Scapegoat...pawn..call it what you want, but that's the feeling I got throughout.

The time to get worried is when your girlfriend calls you the wrong name, especially in the throes of passion.
