I just saw some banner advertising a gaming site with a woman sticking her bare arse out to look at. Now if threads about flaming Shakespear are closed, don't you think that maybe an ad like that shouldn't be put on this site either?? Not to mention I have heard some stuff on other sites about people at stores going to these sites and then someone peeking over their shoulder getting offended at some cussing or something. This goes way beyond that.....

If you have a problem with a banner, complain to the owners... and be more specific on what the ad was. Some people are offended by some of the ads. If they agree, maybe there is something they can do.

Since this is a primarily teenage male dominated forum... I don't think there will be many complaints about that particular ad...
Please get a screenshot of a page of Apolyton with that ad and mail it to us along with your reasons for having a problem with it.

That's kind of hard for me to do since I don't have a scanner and that's the only way I know of to do it. I think it's something like DirectRadar.com, lemme see if I can find it....

When you see the banner appear, click the "Print Scrn" button on your keyboard (near top, likely right-hand size). This will save a picture of the screenshot to your computer's Clipboard.
Then, paste the picture into graphics editor (e.g. Paint Shop Pro) and, if possible, please cut the banner ad out. If not, at the very least please save it in JPG format so the file size is reasonable to send via email, and we'll take it from there.

I just saw a banner from Ugo Direct. It's a pretty suggestive add of a blonde woman, and it says "She wants you to be a heavyweight."
I would like to see women posting their thoughts on Apolyotn, rather than women posting themselves. Such ads might make the smart ladies feel like they're at the wrong Civ site.
Mark/Dan: I believe you guys are quality people! Don't think I'm calling you irresponsible.
PS: Just curious, I wonder if there are any ladies who are members of Apolyton.
Since they are paid ads (I assume) I guess they aren't subject to the same rules as posts......

once more: ads are not handled by us, but by our hosts. it is an obligation of ours under our hosting agreement, to show the ads chosen by our hosts, who I must say have a long experience in proffessional quality gaming sites. we have posted more than once the procedure for complaining about an ad
excuse me, goofydrew, but there are still plenty of serious forums which i post on, and i, as a twelve-year old, take your comment personally. these forums ARE open to everybody, and to add to the topic, i do think that these banners are getting out of hand. practically all of them are offensive, and i don't care if my 'mom is looking over my shoulder,' but it's just crazy to have a half-naked woman ad on a game site.

Sometimes I post at my college's library. I try to scrool down as soon as that UGO add comes on so I don't get looked at as if I'm viewing porn. I could care less what the adds are when I'm at my apartment...but some of us use these forums in public places.
No one has called me out regarding the UGO add, and I would show them exactly what site I was at. I don't care about people tellin' me right from wrong.
I am neither here nor there regarding this issue, just wanted to show how it could make a bit of problems.
Good luck getting the host to remove the add..sex sells if you haven't noticed.

I find the adds way offinsive. Like sammyboy said, this is a gameing site. I am, by the way, also a 12-year old, and as such resent goofydrew's comments. For that matter, I resent every comment goofydrew has made, not only the age ones. Apolyton needs to go to the advertising company, and put some serious pressure on it to stop the adds, especially considering that it goes to the trouble to censor words!! If nothing else, it makes the site look bad. I don't do porn sites, and I would hope that this site (which I respect a lot) dosen't do porn. I come here to talk about Civilization, not to see things I'd rather not see.

to be more specific, the site is http://www.karli.com/ugo/ and has something to do with heavyweight boxing
an additional note: a user survey last summer showed that the BIG majority of your visitors are adults, while the percentage of visitors under the age of 10 was 0(zero that is).
and sorry to say this blatant, but I'm sure that at the age of 12 or 13 you have seen much more naked parts of women bottoms on TV than on this site

I won't say the owners should or should not boot the ad--it's not my place; however, I do find such ads...disconcerting. As to the difficulties in removing these ads, I don't know how hard it is, but I do know it's possible. My brother has had some success getting doubleclick and flycast to listen to him with his site in this regard.

It's not about age problems, it's about the general disrespect of women displayed in this and other ads. The woman in the ad has nothing to do with the product being sold- it is an insult to men to assume we would be attracted by this crap. It is also highly offensive in its nature, and shows a stereotype submissive view of women that runs quite contrary to the respect they deserve. I was angry at the Bikini Babes ads for boardgames at playlink, but this is worse. It is disgusting to see women be exploited in this way anywhere, and certainly not on a respectable site such as this one.
silly question: why do you complain to us, who show this (offensive in your opinion) ad in order to be able to support this ((should I remind) free) service, and not the makers of the ad?
On behalf of the women and gays at Apolyton, I would like to suggest that, to ensure total equality when it comes to advertising, for every ad there is showing a half naked (or fully naked) woman, we get an ad showing a half naked (or fully naked) man. Thank you.
