  • Napoleon 1.2

    Due to my comp dying on me, I have had to start again, so I did some thinking and decided on some new features I would like to add, so for all those familiar with napoleon 1.0, this is what will be added/changed

    *New map to be used, europe pw

    This is done for a number of reasons

    - To get rid of scandinavia which servered no usful perpose in version 1
    - To give the Ottomans some eastern competition (in the form of barbarians)
    - For increased geographical accuracy (well except for Greece which comes out very badly)
    - To give the Russians and Ottomans more competetion in the Caucasus

    * The civilisations

    - Britain
    - France
    - Austria
    - Prussia
    - Spain
    - Russia
    - Ottoman turks

    Other civs will ethier be represented by giving control to one of the above, or by barbarians.

    * New units and units.gif

    * New events

    The scenario will be divided into 13 periods

    - The revolutionary wars 1792-1796
    - Napoleon arrives 1796-1798
    - The Eygptian campain 1798-1802
    - Peace of Ameins 1802-1803
    - Onwards to Vienna 1803-1806
    - Australitz and beyond 1806-1807
    - Suicide in Spain 1807-1810
    - From Cadiz to Koningsberg 1810-1812
    - Wrestling with the bear 1812-1813
    - Wellington's march / Retreat through Gemrnay 1813-1814
    - "La Paire en danger" 1814
    - Elba 1814-1815
    - The hundred days 1815

    * New improvments and wonders

    thats all for now, if anyone has any more suggestions on how to improve things then please feel free

    on a side note, Polaris could you please sned me that GIGA europe map so I can get back to work on 1400, thanks

    I have a suggestion. In the last version you had ships named 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rate frigates. I think it would be better if they become sols(ship of the line). The british navy rated ships by the following fomula: more than 100 guns 1st rate; 80-100 guns 2nd rate; 64-80 guns 3rd rate; 32-50 guns(Frigates) 4th rate; 20-32 guns 5th rate ECT. Frigates were the equivelent of WW2 heavy cruisers and were designed as commerce raiders, not line of battle ships. The SOLs were the equivelent of WW2 battleships and were expected to do the most heavy fighting, as well as blockadeing harbors. Frigates also served as the eyes of fleets during the age of sail, and even the largest 4th rater could not stand up to a 3rd or higher rated ship.

            cpoulos,

            thanks for the suggestion about the navy, I'll keep that in mind

            everyone,

            I seem to have a little problem with Poland/Lithuainia, when the scenario starts (1792) large parts of that country are still independent from Prussia, Austria and Russia. If I keep it independent then the AI will probably not conquer it correctly (ie, Austria will get Warsaw and Prussia Crackow), but dividing it as it was in 1795 (in 1792) will not be historicaly accurate. Which do you think would be better?

              I would split them up between the three powers. The polish question was a major concern of the powers involved. If Austria, got to much of Poland, Prussia and Russia would certainly not take it lightly. The same if the others got it first. Sometimes to fit the Civ-2 game engine you have to make sacrifices to history and this would be one.

                I forgot to add something: Part six of your scenario(Austerlitz and beyond) How about calling it Jena to Friedland, since the battle of Austerlitz was fought in december of 1805. Just a thought.

                  *kicks himself about Australitz*

                  yes I may do that, I may also invest in a new history book

                  With reguard to Poland, I think I will leave a few cities free for some events, I'm thinking Warsaw, Lodz and Lublin can be barbarian and the powers can share them. Apart from that they can be divided between the three.

                  Thanks for all your advice

                    Just a thought, is the seabattle at Trafalgar included? It would be nice to fight with a large fleet, but I know the AI isn´t a very good Admiral...

                      If you leave warsaw, how about this: when warsaw is conquered create unit Polish lancers for france, or polish uprising, with powerful one shot rebels to try to retake warsaw. Or make the lancers a tech that only france can have(something like no lancers for everyone else).

                        It is something I would have liked to have done in 1.0 but couldn't due to lack of event space (instead I used the Nelson unit, which was a bit silly), in this version I want to have some big naval battles (the Nile and Trafalgar) but as you said I will have to see how the AI handles it.

                        Also in thsi version you will no longer by able to use ships to attack land units, I may add an amphibios (sp) unit which specialises in taking out costal cannons to make up for it

                          In 1.0 Lancers were French only (using the revolution tech IIRC), I was thinking making Polish legion and/or Polish auxileries (sp?) units for the French available using the capture of warsaw etc. for the events. I'm not so sure about the Polish uprising, but thnaks for all your ideas and input, keep em' coming folks

                            This may be a bit off-topic here and maybe not so useful at all, but I just found this site: http://www.clockwk.com
                            It's a site dedicated to a historical atlas program ... The most interesting thing is, it features a free "Napoleonic Edition" which is a fully functional "demo" limited to the Napoleonic era in Europe. It might come in handy to anyone trying to make a Napoleonic scenario.
