  • They need to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps!

So what are people's thoughts on the enormous corporate bail outs by the federal government so far?

I am especially interested in hearing from those who so fiercely oppose welfare programs for destitute families and individuals but who turn around and have no problems with corporate welfare.

Stick to your principles and demand that CEOS and other high-level executives pull themselves up by their own bootstraps!

A family going bankrupt won't bring the world economy down with them. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will. You owe it to the rest of the world to bail them out and not have us pay the price for your corruption and lack of oversight.

We do pay the price for the incompetence and corruption of corporations.

The federal government gets its money from our taxes and the federal government is the one bailing out these pathetic corporations.

I guess we could just do nothing and go into another Great Depression. Would you like that better?

He said it. You had foreigners buying $1.5 trillion of GSE debt on the assumption there was an implicit gov't guarantee on it and American homeowners benefited from it. Say nuh-uh to saving Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and the world says nuh-uh to financing the US.

These aren't enormous corporate bailouts, they are enormous corporate liquidity backstops.

Hewlett Packard is laying off something like 25,000 workers, half of them in the USA.

I for one am surprised that they still have that many US workers.

They bought out DSC not that long ago. They put an axe swinger in charge and he's been cutting out in a lot of areas since he got there.

Well I'm glad to see once again we are on the same side.

Why don't you come all the way over to the darkside Mr. Fun. It really is better over here.

Of the two bailouts you refer to Mr. Fun, one was actually a takeover and not a bailout and will cost the share holders big time, and the other is a bridge lone at 11% with 80% stock control that will probably make the government money and St. Tomas Aquinus blush.

Then again, seeing as it was the government in part (through Republican and Democrat eras) that encouraged these companies to lends sub prime in the first place, it is not unreasonable that they participate somewhat in the rescue effort (not through bailouts, however).
