Announcing Civilization Network!
(21 October 2009, 11:10 | Misc) Hello Civ Fans!
I wanted to let you know we’ll soon be looking for beta testers to help us develop a unique new way to play Civilization. Ever since we finished Civilization® Revolution™ last year, I’ve been looking at ways of expanding the Civ gameplay experience to include solo, competitive and cooperative play to take advantage of the uniqueness of social networks. We’re calling this project Civilization® Network™ and the full game will be available next year on Facebook. Civilization Network will allow you to join together with your friends to create the world’s most powerful, richest, smartest, or just plain coolest civilization. You can coordinate your strategy to win great battles, share your technology to jump ahead of your rivals, lobby your family and friends to form your own government and win vital elections, manage and grow your cities to maximize production and happiness, spy on your enemies, and work with your friends to create the great Wonders of the World. The game will offer everything you enjoy in Civ in a fully persistent environment - you can play as much as you like, whenever you like, and it’ll be free to play.
We’ll offer a closed beta of the game soon, so stay tuned for details on how you can sign-up to participate. The full game will launch in 2010. For more information about Civilization Network, including development updates and behind-the-scenes posts from me and the Firaxis team, join our Facebook fanpage here: www.facebook.com/civnetwork.
Thanks and Stay Civilized!

Firaxis QA Manager talks about QA
(2 October 2009, 16:25 | Misc) Scott Wittbecker, Quality Assurance Manager at Firaxis, talks about play-testing of games.
"QA is a critical component of the game development cycle since there’s no way that the programming and art teams can verify every aspect of the game prior to release." Wittbecker says.
If you want to learn more about play testing or seek a way to start career in the gaming industry, Firaxis` career articles may help you to get `a foot in the door`.

CivCon `09 cancellation
(22 July 2009, 14:22 | Misc) Daniel "DanQ" Quick informed us with regret about the cancellation of CivCon `09. "The reason for coming to this unfortunate decision was due to low registration numbers, even during the `early bird` period which ended this past Tuesday. Further, lower interest and availability still was received to participate in the multiplayer tournaments, which were to have made up a considerable portion of the event`s itinerary." Quick said.
The organisation hoped to see enough registrations, which unfortunately was not the case.
They hope for more convention opportunities in the future.
A message to all participants from Quick: "Thank you to those of you who expressed interest in this event, and an additional nod of appreciation to those of you who did register. Refunds for registration payments, minus applicable PayPal fees, are to be issued within the next few business days -- contact Treasurer Joe "joebreeves" Reeves (joe.reeves@gmail.com) if you have any concerns in this regard. For hotel and any other reservations (e.g. airfare), you will need to cancel them yourselves. Check the terms of these bookings to ensure that you cancel before you are charged for the service."
