POLYCAST SPECIAL ON `CIV4COL` WITH FIRAXIS GAMES
(15 August 2008, 17:56 | Col | 23 comments)
Lead Artist, Designer and Producer. These are the titles that Firaxis Games Mike Bates, Ed Piper and Jesse Smith hold respectively on the sequel to Colonization to be released worldwide next month. They are also the interviewees on "Focus: "Civilization IV: Colonization", a PolyCast (PC) special on the game running 70m35s in length. Regular PC co-host Daniel "DanQ" Quick is joined by Wouter "Locutus" Snijders and Ken "Impaler[WrG]" Ferland from sibling show ModCast (MC) to round out the panel. Firaxis Director of Marketing Kelley Gilmore makes a cameo while Marketing Manager Dennis Shirk assisted in recording the development team members` audio.
Topics cover the development team members themselves then Civ4Col`s design, gameplay in three parts, combat, graphics and finally a set of miscellaneous questions. Not only does this feature disclose a lot of information about the game publicly for the first time, it also has the distinction of including the game`s opening theme music throughout -- a worldwide premiere for this artistic work.
PolyCast is a bi-weekly audio production of Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS) in an ongoing effort to give the Civ community an interactive voice on game strategy; MC focuses on Civ modding. To date, ACS is the only known community on the Web to produce its own Civ podcasts. - DanQ
HEADED ONTO THE MAC IT SEEMS
(10 August 2008, 16:07 | Col | 5 comments) The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) is listing the platforms that Civilization IV: Colonization is to be available on and it includes the Macintosh. No further details such as the operating system required are provided. This has yet to be confirmed by developer Firaxis Games or publisher 2K Games, but can be regarded as a reasonable indicator that it will be. To view the entry for yourself, visit ESRB`s website and search for "Colonization".
To date, two of the three gaming titles beginning with CivIV have been ported to the Mac: the original and its first expansion Warlords, both by Aspyr Media. Thanks to GameStooge`s Jonah Falcon for the news tip. - DanQ
FINAL FRONT BOX ART EXCLUSIVES
(7 August 2008, 16:03 | Col | 20 comments)
A joint Apolyton Civilization Site and Civilization Fanatics Center exclusive is the finalized front box art for the American and European releases of Civilization IV: Colonization, courtesy game developer Firaxis Games and parent publisher 2K Games. Head on over to Apolyton`s forums for a full look see at both including high resolution images; at right is a small capture of the one for America.
As can be seen, the most notable difference between the two is that the European box emphasizes that CivIV is not required to play given Civ4Col`s "stand-alone expansion" status. Another difference is the respective rating continental agencies for games gave the title: in America it`s rated for those aged 10 and over while in Europe it`s 12 and over.
Thanks to 2K Community Manager Elizabeth "2K Elizabeth" Tobey for this presentation. - DanQ
QUESTIONS FOR `CIV4COL` DEVELOPERS: POLYCAST
(2 August 2008, 20:19 | Col | 10 comments)
Sometime next month, Civilization IV: Colonization is expected to be released worldwide to the gaming public. It is a highly anticipated sequel to the original Colonization released more than fourteen years ago; as expectations run and momentum rises higher and higher, questions remain. This month, gamers have an opportunity to ask those questions of and directly to four key individuals at its developer Firaxis Games in a special edition of PolyCast (PC), an official podcast of Apolyton Civilization Site (ACS).
Civ4Col Lead Artist Mike Bates, Lead Programmer Alex Mantzaris, Designer Ed Piper and Producer Jesse Smith will join Daniel "DanQ" Quick and a fellow co-host from ACS` PC series to discuss the game. To ask these gentlemen questions, you can either post them or leave a voicemail: (301) 637-7659 (North America), +44 121 288 7659 (Europe) or VoIP for free via Skype.
Where identities are verifiable and service available, those whose questions are selected for use in this special will receive a three-month subscription to "PLUS!", ACS` optional subscription service. Questions must be submitted on/by 11:59PM EDT on August 4th for consideration and will be screened for appropriateness and suitability. ACS is the only known community to produce its own Civilization podcasts. - DanQ
10 NEW (OLD) SCREENS!
(27 July 2008, 18:01 | Col | 4 comments)
Gaming site GamesRadar has had a secret it hasn`t been sharing with many for the last month: they`ve had some screenshots that most of us hadn`t noticed before. If you visit their image gallery and look under June 24, you can see 10 screenshots we had not noticed before or seen anyone discuss in our forums (along with 4 that were more widely known).
They show off a colony that appears to have expanded to the point where it occupies 3 tiles, some artwork of a shipyard, two shots of French ships exploring near native settlements (Incans in one, Sioux in the other), two shots of French colonies, a Dutch ship near an Incan island, a close-up of a Dutch colony, natives attacking a colony and finally a shot of more naval combat.
Thanks to the just-launched Civ4: Colonization fansite Hooked on Colonization for making us aware of these screens! - Locutus
