WORTHPLAYING PREVIEW
(11 September 2008, 00:06 | Col | 1 comments) WorthPlaying have posted a walk-through of a typical game of Civ4: Colonization, whilst providing new information throughout. As is the common theme among previews of C4C this one also highlights the differences and similarities between Civ4 and C4C.
Civilization IV: Colonization is a wonderful, expansive game. It`s trying to be something very different from Civilization and yet is fundamentally too similar to be considered really separate. Powerful customization tools let you create exactly the game you want. The game tries to appeal to beginners with extensive tutorial tooltips and a Civilopedia that`s packed with information about how different units and mechanics work. Colonization is certainly going to be a fun game when it ships later this month.

IGN: FRENCH NATION PROFILE
(10 September 2008, 23:50 | Col | 6 comments) In their third instalment on the C4C factions, IGN have posted a full profile on the French faction!
After the fall of Rome in 476 AD, the citizens of Gaul were left without a ruler. It would be only 10 short years, however, before the region`s first King, Clovis I, a member of the House of Merovingian, established the first Frankish kingdom. The four hundred year reign of the Merovingian`s dynasty was plagued with uncertainty, betrayal and infighting. Not until the rise of a king known as Charles the Great - also known as Charlemagne - established the Carolingian dynasty in 800 AD did the true beginnings of the French monarchy take hold.

IGN: ENGLISH NATION PROFILE
(29 August 2008, 07:41 | Col | 2 comments) Following on from last week`s Dutch faction profile, IGN have today posted a full profile on the English faction!
In 1066 AD, the Norman conqueror William crossed the English Channel, defeated the restored Wessex monarchy at the Battle of Hastings, and began nearly four hundred years of rule over England by kings of French lineage. This lineage, known as the Plantagenets, were descendents of the count of Anjou, a region in northern France. The Plantagenets eventually split into two other English Royal Houses, the House of Lancaster, which ruled England 1399 until 1471, and the House of York, who took control after the removal of the Lancesters and ruled until 1485.

(22 August 2008, 23:39 | Col | 7 comments) The Civ4: Col Week in (p)review:
This last week has been a big one for Civ4: Col. Many screenshots, hands-on reviews, the release of the trailer movie, a release countdown and the first faction profile. In order we have:
Worthplaying released 22 screens, the trailer and a little information (not new).
IGN released a hands-on preview by Jason Ocampo.
We haven`t even gotten to when relations turn ugly and it`s time for war, but judging from the build trees there`s quite a bit to naval and land combat. Privateers, frigates, infantry, cavalry, and scouts are just some of the military units at your command, provided you can produce them.
Gamershell.com posted 10 new screenshots and the trailer movie.
layers will be challenged to guide their people from the oppressive motherland, discover the New World, and negotiate, trade and fight with both the natives and other nations as they acquire power and fight for freedom and independence. Colonization does not require the original Civilization IV product in order to be played
PALGN posted their first preview of the game and were impressed.
For anyone who`s been waiting for an updated version of Colonization, it all looks very promising. The standalone nature of the game should also make it a good jumping in point for anyone who`s missed the Civ IV bandwagon so far, or is just looking for something a bit different from the Civ IV stable.
IGN then posted the first faction profile: The Dutch, including the Dutch Stadtholder (modelled off William of Orange the Silent), Adriaen van der Donck & Peter Stuyvesant.
Finally, Gamespy released their first hand-on preview with mention of the possible release date.
Sid Meier`s Civilization IV: Colonization is scheduled for release on September 22nd and we can`t wait to dig in to the final version of Sid`s confection.

IGN: DUTCH NATION PROFILE
(21 August 2008, 21:45 | Col | 4 comments) The reliable folks over at IGN have posted today a full profile on the Dutch faction!
While not a monarchy in the traditional sense, the House of Orange-Nassau played an invaluable role in the history of the Netherlands. The first member of the House of Orange to earn great renown was William of Orange, known colloquially as "William the Silent." His political and military savvy helped to loosen the Spanish hold on the provinces of the Netherlands for the first time in almost a century. He eventually earned the position of Stadtholder, effectively placing the fate of the Netherlands in his hands. William would struggle valiantly, securing numerous concessions for his nation, before being assassinated in 1584.
