NEW MAC PATCH
(31 August 2006, 11:09 | Civ3) Aspyr Media, publisher of Civilization III and Civilization IV for the Macintosh, has released a new patch for Civilization III: Complete. The patch will update any version of Civilization III: Complete for the Macintosh to version 1.22 Rev A. A list of fixes:
- Provides a Universal Binary for both the Civilization 3 Complete and Play the World applications.
- Fixes error "Load Error: Error Reading file: Missing Entry in: Game Data\text\PediaIcons.txt"
- Fixes instances where game would sometimes fail when completing research, giving an error about missing Civilopedia entries or other strange behavior.
- Fixed sporadic crashes when music cues were being stopped.
- Music stuttering should be greatly reduced.
- Custom scenarios (such as the SGOTM at civfanatics.com) are now properly found if placed in "~/Documents/Civilization 3 Complete/Scenarios" (searched first) or "Conquests Game Data/Scenarios" (searched second)
- Saved files are now compressed. (Autosave files are never compressed, which is the same as the PC version.)
- When playing fullscreen (as opposed to a window), you may now temporarily leave the game by using either Cmd-H (OSX`s hide command) or Cmd-Tab. Clicking on the game icon in the dock (or using Cmd-Tab again) will return you back to where you were.
- Compatibility fixes for several third-party mods. In particular, the "Rhye`s of Civilization" mod now works. As a side effect, network games will not work with previous versions.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER TWICE OVER
(21 March 2006, 22:12 | Civ3) Last month, InsideMacGames` Ryan Fritsch completed his review of the Macintosh port of Civilization III: Complete, combining the original CivIII plus its Play the World and Conquests expansion into one title. It starts with what was most likely a difficult admission on the part of the reviewer. My track record with turn-based strategy games proves that I am a huge turn-based strategy fan, but for one glaring exception[...] incredibly, inexplicably I`ve never felt up to the calling of playing the legend of legends: [Civ]. I blame no one but my own timid weakness.
What follows is a two-page review where C3C, ported by Aspyr Media and its in-house subsidiary Aspyr Studios, receives an 8/10 overall score. `Graphics` and `Value` receive the lowest cateogrical marks with 7/10`s apiece while `Sound` takes 8/10 and `Gameplay` a perfect 10/10. On the value front, Fritsch questions the full-price for this work, com[ing] at a curious time in relation to its successor`s pending port in June -- also from Aspyr -- and with some peculiar decisions documented within.
This IMG representative`s final word? But even with CivIV knock-knock-knocking at gameplay-heaven`s door, [C3C] is better late than never. Ten screenshots in JPEG (JPG) format accompany the write-up in a separate gallery. - DanQ
MACWORLD GIVES CIV3 COMPLETE FOR THE MAC FOUR MICE
(31 January 2006, 01:01 | Civ3) Popular Macintosh product website Macworld recently posted their review of the recently releasted Civilization III: Complete for the Macintosh.
After explaining the mechanics of CivIII to new players, the review notes some of the new features available in this expansion. Not only does Civ3:Complete [run] well on today`s modern systems, compared to the Macsoft port that had troubles on newer machines, but the addition of the Play the World expansion, similarly to the PC version, adds a multiplayer component that lets you compete against other Civ III enthusiasts online. The Conquests portion of the addon gives similar benefits to the PC version, with all nine conquests available for Mac play.
Ultimately, Macworld concludes that Civ3: Complete is a good port of a great strategy game, although they consider it an appetizer to the main dish - Civilization 4 for the mac, which is slated to be released later this year. - snoopy369
