THE SCENARIO LEAGUE IN 2009
(2 July 2009, 04:46 | Civ2)
Its been a while since the last news update but a lot has been going on at the Scenario League. The Scenario League Forum is still very much active and scenario development projects are underway. A new Scenario League Information Thread has been added to replace the old Great Library and act as a directory for all useful information related to Civilization 2. You can find a list of current projects and recently completed scenarios there.
A load of new Test of Time and Multiplayer Gold Edition scenarios have been completed in the past couple of years and have been added to the Scenario League Site. Check out the `New Downloads` section of the home page for details. We continue to expand the Scenario League Site by adding classic scenarios. See the Classic Scenarios for the Scenario League Site thread for details of recent additions and to have your say. We are also working on the Modified Scenarios Workshop project that aims to add graphics mods, Test of Time conversions and major scenario modifications to the Scenario League site. We hope this will breath new life into some old favorites. Feel free to submit your work!
The Civ2 News thread is part of a new initiative to create a news blog to keep members and people browsing the site up to date with developments in the community. Also a Civilization 2 Scenario League Facebook Group has been set up to spread the word of Civ2 to a larger audience. New members are welcome! - Robert Plomp
TOP 100 VIDEO GAMES OF ALL TIME
(4 July 2007, 20:33 | Civ2) Fillabustercartoons has compiled quite a list of lists so to speak!
This collection of lists covers PC to Sega, from Nintendo to Playstation and many more.I`m not the only guy who likes making lists. Over the years, many gaming magazines and websites have made lengthy lists of their own in an attempt to compile comprehensive guides chronicling the best video games of all time. Here is a summary of some of the leading Top 10s, as excerpted from various Top 100 lists.
The Jaded Gamer gave Civilization II a number 9 spot for this 1996 release.
Check out some of the many lists such as IGN which gave the same game a number four slot! - Grandpa Troll

DICTATOR 6 PLAYTEST!
(20 March 2007, 15:23 | Civ2 | 112 comments)
Global conflict - Get involved!
From Curt Sibling:
I have released the `beta` version of my latest CIV2-ToT project, an entirely new version of Dictator, which is my series of WW2 global battle scenario. It features a new map by Eivind IV, units by fairline and myself, and over a year of development.
Take command of the Allies/Soviets/Japanese/Third Reich/Australia/Chinese and blast a highway to total victory with infantry, bombers, battleships and tanks. This version also showcases the new `wargame` style units, with groups of tiny men, instead of the traditional CIV2 large unit infantry icons.
I am looking for people who enjoy WW2 battles in CIV2 to jump in and give the scenario some tests. Playing has already begun, but the more Civvers who join in, the more bugs get slugged!
Feel free to check out this new WW2 epic and leave some feedback. - curtsibling
ACADEMICS: CIV2 AMONG 10 MOST IMPORTANT GAMES OF ALL TIME
(13 March 2007, 22:40 | Civ2) The New York Times and GameSpy report that a consortium of American universities (consisting of Stanford University, University of Maryland and the University of Illinois) have proposed to the US Congress to add a game canon to the Library of Congress.
Henry Lowood, curator of the History of Science and Technology Collections at Stanford University and initiator of the proposal, said: Creating this list is an assertion that digital games have a cultural significance and a historical significance. When this is acknowledged, maybe we should do something about preserving them.
A committee of two game designers, two academics and a game journalist selected the ten most important video games of all time to form the basis for this canon: Spacewar! (1962), Star Raiders (1979), Zork (1980), Tetris (1985), SimCity (1989), Super Mario Bros. 3 (1990), Civilization I/II (1991), Doom (1993), Warcraft series (beginning 1994) and Sensible World of Soccer (1994).
Almost all of the games on this list represent the beginning of a genre still vital in the video game industry. According to Steve Mezetzky, one of the game designers on the committee, Civilization`s balance, opponent AI, interesting victory conditions and constant stream of tantalizing rewards made the game extremely addictive and always pushed the player to play just 10 more minutes.
Lowood announced that the intention of the initiative is to preserve these games in their original form for posterity, but that legal and technological issues still had to be worked out. - Locutus
