EXPLORATION VALUE EXPONENTIAL
(3 November 2003, 18:55 | Civ3) Civilization III fans may want to take note of the following short list of changes to the game: map trading requires the Navigation advance, communications trading requires the Printing Press advance and Explorer units are available with the Astronomy advance. This is what is forthcoming in Conquests, the title`s second add-on which becomes commercially available in North America and elsewhere in the world ten days later [related story].
These may not seem like big changes, but they GREATLY affect the Exploration and Trading portions of the game, Smith explains. This prevents the [artificial intelligence (AI)] from map trading so the World Map is usually fogged until the late Middle Ages. This gives Expansionist & Seafaring Civilizations an incredible advantage in the early game. Through quick exploration you can trade your territory map for BIG items such as key techs and gold from the AI. With the trading and communications as optional paths the fog stays around even longer. With Explorers available on the key optional path they become much more useful!
The announcement was made in Civilization Fanatics Center`s forum for the expansion pack. - DanQ
FEATURES OF `C3C` EDITOR DISCLOSED
(3 November 2003, 18:50 | Civ3) Jesse Smith, Civilization III Producer and Producer-at-large at game developer Firaxis Games, has disclosed to the community via Civilization Fanatics Center the new features to be found in the built-in editor.
I`m sure questions will be raised from th[is], but I`m going to have to request that you wait for the screens and fellow fanatics for more in-depth info, he concludes his post. - DanQ
NEW AND MODIFIED UNITS INDEX
(3 November 2003, 18:31 | Civ3) The new units in the Epic Game type in Civilization III: Conquests, the second CivIII expansion pack, have been listed by Firaxis Games Producer Jesse Smith along with a rundown of the changes for existing game units -- a specialized thread on air types of the latter is viewable here. Smith is serving in his titled capacity on C3C with his team and one at BreakAway Games, and posted both items in Apolyton Civilization Site's forum for the add-on.
Units no longer cost multiples of 10, he adds on another notable update. So if a unit is set in the editor to cost 24 then it is 24 shields, not 240! This was a must for the modding community!
C3C is set for release tomorrow in North America and November 14th elsewhere in the world [related story]. - DanQ

TOWARDS GOVERNMENTAL CLARITY
(2 November 2003, 23:00 | Civ3) The governments in Civilization III are not only expanding in number, but some of those already present are receiving varying degrees of makeovers in the game`s second expansion pack, Conquests. To help set fact from fiction, the add-on`s Producer at developer Firaxis Games Jesse Smith today started a thread in Civilization Fanatics Center`s forums with the traits of all seven types for achieving a public sector hierarchy. A few highlights as worded by Smith:
No maintenance with Feudalism had a very negative side effect -- the [game`s artifical intelligence] wouldn`t switch from it!! [..] Fascism`s... free unit support is countered by the pop[ulation] hit when switching to it and the inability to generate culture in new cities. If you expand to[o] quickly your cities will revolt back to their original owner.
The quoted Firaxian adds that the C3C development team will definitely review suggestions for any future adjustments, implying the possibility of post-release patches for the title. - DanQ
