REYNOLDS INTERVIEWED FOR `JEFFERSON`
(2 October 2002, 22:18 | Misc) Local Baltimore newspaper The Jefferson has interviewed Big Huge Games President Brian Reynolds about their upcoming debut title, Rise of Nations, and the work that has led up to this point.
"Fortunately in this industry if you manage to get associated with some games that were hits it makes it easier to sign the next deal and get the next round of funding", Reynolds says [to TJ reporter Bob Allen] of the relative ease with which he landed his company`s multi-million-dollar funding from Microsoft. [..] "I`m well-enough known in this industry to walk into Microsoft and get a deal... It makes the doors open a lot easier". [..]
"Ten percent of the products in the gaming industry make 90 percent of the money... On the other hand if you do have a hit, the potential revenue stream can be very large. Big games sell 2 million to 4 million units and create revenue streams of $70 million[US] to $80 million[US]".
Reynolds does conclude by saying that he does intended to retire from the industry -- some day, but not today.
At 35, Reynolds describes himself as a grizzled veteran in an industry dominated by 20-somethings. [..] "Really, I have absolutely no plans to not be doing this in my 60s", he laughs.
