MEDIEVAL PACK V1.1!
(3 August 2001, 02:37 | CtP2) We'll leave the rest to Wes... :)
I have uploaded the final public version of the Medieval Pack: A Call to Arms.
I have created a webpage version of the Introduction and Installation text at this link http://apolyton.net/wes/intro.txt . I would recommend that everyone review this page even if you are already familiar with the mod, since this file has been expanded to cover some of the topics players keep asking about.
If you already have the July 18th text update, you only need to get the 1.1 text portion here- http://apolyton.net/wes/1_1texts.zip .
If you have the 1.0 version, but missed that update, you will also need to get the new pictures component here- http://apolyton.net/wes/pictures.zip .
If you have not gotten the modpack before, you will need to go to my site and get the sounds and sprites compoenents in addition to these two components listed above. Here is a link to my index page- http://apolyton.net/wes/

BOOK 3 ALMOST DONE
(3 August 2001, 02:33 | SMAC) Michael Ely announced yesterday that the third book of his trilogy is almost done, thanking the posters of the AC-Fiction forum for their suggestions.
Thanks for the final thoughts, especially the Chinese names. I'm putting the final touches on book 3, and some of these things will definitely make it in.
The book will be released in February 2002. Book 2, titled "Dragon Sun", will be on the shelves at the end of this month. - MarkG

MAGAHA ON SYS. REQUIREMENTS
(2 August 2001, 00:30 | Civ3) CivIII does not require a Pentium III, it requires a PII 300Mhz, which is even a middle-of-the-road PII. By the time the game hits shelves, Pentium 4 2Ghz machines will be available, so by contrast, PII-300Mhz doesn't sound unreasonable to me.
This is how Dan Magaha, Firaxis' Webmaster and Apolyton forum regular, began his reply in the face of criticism regarding Civilization III's system requirements.
At the same time, he attempted to ease worries regarding the quality of graphics apparent in screenshots released to date -- or lack thereof.
As far as your opinion on the graphics, all I can do is say what I've been saying for quite some time, which is that you should wait until the game is released before passing judgment on the graphics. Many of the screenshots floating around the net are *months* old, and we are still in development. - DanQ

NO. 22 ON GAMESPY TOP 50
(1 August 2001, 20:37 | Civ2) On Monday GameSpy started posting their Top 50 Games Of All Time, an incredible collaborative effort of all of the network's staff. Today the third of five parts was posted and, to the amazement of at least as many as those who thought nothing of it, reveals Civilization II in twenty-second spot.
CivII improved on CivI by adding many new races, new combat units, and a sophisticated warfare system that increased the realism in combat, GameSpy writes. The new graphical and audio effects also helped to add a greater depth to the game. Civilization II remains an addictive, entertaining, and compelling strategy game.
Geoffrey Zatkin of Verant Interactive had this to say:
I can't think of any game that I played longer then Civilization II -- it was on my "most played games list" for about 4 years.
In a couple of days it will be revealed if any other Civ title made the list, including Call To Power and the original Civilization. - DanQ
