TIME MOVES
(2 November 2000, 18:43 | CtP2) Drakenred had a couple of specific questions for Activision on CTPII, and he got his answers from Pyaray. In the order that they were asked:
How fast does time move in each era?
Between 1 and 25 years, depending on skill level and era. More in the early eras, less in the later eras.
This is very much like the case was in CTP, CivI and CivII.
Can you reset time to a shorter span for a faster game?
If you're comfortable changing the data files, it's all in there. But that will change the balance of the game and technology.
Last, but not least:
Can you by extention reset the clock to a monthly-weekly-dayly seting for individual Scenarios?
Yes. - DanQ
REYNOLDS: KEYNOTE SPEECHES
(2 November 2000, 17:53 | Misc) Just a reminder of a story we first reported on some weeks ago. Bige Huge Games' Brian Reynolds will be speaking at the Australian Game Developers Conference in Melbourne, Australia, being held from November 3-5.
His two keynotes are entitled "The Poor Get Richer: The Ancient Art of Game Design" and "Game Design Techniques", the latter of which he will share the podium with Westwood Studios' Louis Castle and Mark Morrison of Infogrames, Melbourne House.
If anyone who is reading this is going to attending this gathering and hears what Reynolds has to say, contact us to let us know how it went and we'll share it with your fellow gamers. - DanQ
RENAISSANCE PERIOD
(2 November 2000, 17:39 | CtP2) Activision's CTPII web team has updated the official website again, this time with the launch of its Renaissance Period section. Some excerpts:
There is much responsibility in leadership, reads the write-up. It is a sobering task to decide what is best for your people, how to win their allegiance and how to maintain a strong and growing society.
My empire has enjoyed centuries of economic and social prosperity. I feel the time is right to begin to expand the reaches of my domain. I have begun to set aside monies to fund exploration. Colonization will strengthen my country's power and wealth.
Included in the update is a screenshot of the "Ship of the Line" unit. - DanQ
IMPORTANT SDC ANNOUNCEMENT
(2 November 2000, 11:51 | HAC) I hope this message reaches all of the SDC participants quickly. I had a slight problem with my computer last night which may have resulted in the loss of several records of codenames. Anyone who is participating in the SDC must e-mail me (using the e-mail you signed for the contest with) IMMEDIATELY at either reismark@civgaming.net or hac@apolyton.net (the former is preferred since I check it more often) with the codename(s) I assigned you. This is to ensure that I have a complete record of all participants. If you e-mailed the SDC hotline looking for a codename but never received a reply, please pass your request along again.
To compensate for this issue (and the fact that we have only received one entry for each contest to date), the deadlines have been extended one more time. Please check the SDC homepage for details. - reismark
WIN2K COMPLIANCE
(1 November 2000, 19:17 | CtP2) Ask a simple question, get a simple answer. This is what PeterVDP found out yesterday in our forums. He asked Activision about CTPII's compatability under Win2000. The 'unofficial' response:
Works fine under Win2k, not sure if it's officially supported or not though., Activision's Pyaray said. - DanQ
