M.A.D. IN CTP2
(8 July 2000, 9:34 EST) That's right! CTP2 is going to model Mutually Assured Destruction! Here's what Mr. Ogre announced on our forums

We now have a system for targeting and then auto-launching nukes when you get nuked in the main game. I had said we weren't doing anything new for nukes, but I was wrong, we are, it's in and working.

There's still a whole lot more in that monster Nuke thread that we're not doing, but this one "little" thing is pretty cool.

If only we had one of those alpha(?) builds to see this in action... :) -MarkG

SLIC2 MOD FUNCTION
(8 July 2000, 21:12 EST) Bless Activision's heart: Joe Rumsey, more commonly known as Mr. Ogre in our forums, has released some details on "mod" functions that he's added into the functionality of SLIC2 in Call To Power II.

"I only have them hooked up to a handful of systems right now, but they're very easy for me to add", Rumsey explains, "and I will definitely be doing more. SLIC2 has true functions, so what I've done is made some predefined functions that the game will call to modify various calculations.

A problem with these things is that many systems are order dependent, so I just have to choose one spot in the sequence to check for a SLIC function. But I think that'll be a pretty minor complaint :-) It'll generally be after everything in the game runs
".

In the thread, Mr. Ogre also lists and explains an example of the code in action. Who says weekends don't produce big news items? :-D -DanQ

GAMELEAGUE
Call to Power Mania [07.08 13:17 est | all] In just the last five days there have been 32 Call to Power games reported on the Call to Power ladder. Since so much interest has been shown in the game during the last five days we will have our first Call to Power tourney starting Wednesday July 19th. Players will have one week to play each game and there will be three to four players per game. Signups will start Wednesday July 12th. If are not already playing Call to Power this is a great time to start.

Netscape Woes [07.08 13:08 est | all ] In one our attempts to make GameLeague ?load faster, use less memory, and look better? we ran into a bug that made GameLeague crash many Netscape browsers. We have now fixed that bug so that GameLeague is once again viewable in all browsers. For this reason we are temporally without that beautiful background that we have grown so accustomed to. Rest assured that this is only temporary and the problem will be fixed as soon as possible.

Back and Better Than Ever 07.08 13:03 est | all ] We are once again fully operational. Members who lost their accounts during our down time are reregistering even as I type this. Last week we started off our month of updates. By the end of this month GameLeague will have more options and things to do than ever before. We are also working to make pages load faster, use less memory, and look better. Keep on playing and look for big improvements over the next month.

Problems Come, Problems Go, Damage Left [07.03 23:50 est | all ] About a month ago lightning hit GameStats? main building which caused their servers to go down. This started a chain reaction, which ended with us losing about 130 entries out of our members table. We are currently working on restoring those members from a backup. However, that backup does not have all members that were deleted, nor does it have up to date scores for those members. To be fair to members who had good scores when their account was inadvertently deleted we have reset all the ladders. This is something we do every once in a while anyway to keep things fresh. We think all the bugs have been worked out and we don't think there will be any more problems.
If your account was not deleted go back to enjoying GameLeague the way you used to and be comforted by the fact that we have and are continuing to take steps to make sure this kind of thing does not happen again. We will also be working hard these next couple of week to add many new features to GameLeague and maybe even add some new Games. If you account was deleted hang tight for just a while longer until we restore the backup (it has to wait until some people get back form 4th of July vacation) and see if your account is restored. If not then we are sorry, but you will have to reregister.
