TRANSLATOR VOLUNTEERS?
(1 May 2000, 19:42 EST) Firaxis' web wizard Dan Magaha wants to know if any member of the SMAC community would be willing to volunteer their time to translate text for the company's upcoming SMAC section. However, Magaha cautions that performing this function on the Datalinks will be a long and involved process.

"... the datalinks are in a big database, and they would be the hardest to translate. Since the database was constructed mainly from the existent text files found in the Alpha game directory, it's possible I could do it that way, but it would take quite some time". -DanQ

REYNOLDS INTERVIEW & FEATURE
(10 May 2000, 23:39 EST) Computer Games Online posted both a feature about and an interview with Brian Reynolds, President of Big Huge Games.

In the former Brian discusses each of the games he has worked on in his years in the computer gaming industry in brief. On CivII:

"I was living in Richmond, North Yorkshire, in England for most of the writing of this game. I guess the countryside view was inspirational -- I think this is my best game, and it was also the most fun to make".

And on SMAC:

"I always wondered if my degree in Philosophy would ever come in handy for something. My favorite part of this game was developing the characters and factions, and the AI to give them divergent personalities and agendas".

The latter of the two articles is a candid talk with Brian about the past, present and future. Excerpt:

CGO: What is your overriding goal for future products from Big Huge Games?

"If there’s one vision we all share it’s to aim for the brass ring, to always try for Triple A quality in every category of production, and to build all of our business and business model and publisher relationships around that central goal". -DanQ
