PENDING FIRAXIS SITE UPDATE
(29 April 2000, 19:42 EST) This morning Firaxis' website guru Dan Magaha delivered a status report on the coming changes to Firaxis' website.

"Just wanted to let you know that I am putting the finishing touches on the online datalinks for Firaxis' own SMAC section", Magaha writes. "I know many of you have written asking for various things like the complete story, faction profiles, etc., and the EA site isn't exactly chock-full of info :)".

The burning question on everyone's mind was shortly posed thereafter by Helium Pond: where is the (SMAC v5) patch?

"I knew that question was going to be asked (grin); the short answer is I don't know... I'll see what I can find out". -DanQ

CANDID FIRAXIS
(28 April 2000, 19:35 EST/Misc) With the occasional bit of unconventional humour, The Gamer's Press was given the opportunity to interview Firaxis in regards to SMAC, Antietam and the up and coming Dinosaurs titles. -DanQ

FIRAXIS` LATEST POLL
(24 April 2000, 19:13 EST/Misc) Firaxis is doing some mild-mannered research into what is gamer's favourite "classic" game of all time of the pre-electronic era. The choices are Chess, Checkers and Go. At present, Chess is making a killing with 77% of the total votes, but such data can be deceiving -- it is based on less than 30 ballots cast. -DanQ

Version 1.23 is available for both the R5 and R6 machines; their combined numbers have seen the demo downloaded more than 3500 times to date. -DanQ

GUIDE FROM BEGAMER.COM
(30 April 2000, 21:30 EST) Justin Sherrill contacted us this weekend in regards to the first installment of a CTP how-to guide that he recently began, hosted by begamer.com. CTP was recently released for the BeOS platform by Wildcard Design, a privately held company established in 1998 to bring PC and Mac games to the BeOS community. The guide is shaping up to be platform-neutral, so PC and Linux users may also find some of the information of value.

With the recent release of version 5, BeOS is one of a growing number of alternative operating systems to Microsoft's Windows and is available for download from BeOS' official website. -DanQ

New Program Converts MGE Scenarios to FW [April 24, 2000] Have Fantastic Worlds and are tired of Multi-player Gold Scenarios failing to load for you? Well, we have good news: Programmer Angelo Scotto has written a small (22K) utility that can convert MGE scenarios to Fantastic Worlds format for you to play. There are some things that may not work 100% right, but it seems to work pretty well for me. Right now I'm playing an MGE scenario with Fantastic Worlds and it works great! Just take the .SCN file, drag it and drop it on the MGEConverter program, and voila! Download it >>here<<.
