MAC ATTACK
CIV INVADES APPLE OS
(18 March 2000, 15:54 EST) Gaming on the Macintosh platform, until recently, has been somewhat of an enigma. With more titles being ported to appease the growing numbers of Mac gamers, we were given the opportunity to two prominent figures responsible for bringing Civ to the Mac, Phil Sulak (VP & CTP Port Developer, Westlake Interactive) and Brad Oliver (SMAC Port Project Leader).

ALPHA CENTAURI
LINUX PORT: T-MINUS ONE MONTH
(13 March 2000, 22:21 EST) John "Warrior" Keefer, GameSpy's Managing News Editor, had the chance to personally talk to Loki Entertainment Inc.'s President Scott Draeker prior to the opening ceremonies at this year's much anticipated Game Developer's Conference.

In their discussions, Draeker mentioned that the previously announced Linux port of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri was set to be released in just a month.

For more from the GDC, keep your eyes peeled on GameSpy's website. -DanQ

SMAC UNITS SOLD: 224,939
(12 March 2000, 14:59 EST/SMAC) In their April 2000 issue, PCGamer includes a listing of their Editor's Choice Award recipients of the past year and the number of units that they sold.

According to the article, in reading over the titles "you'll notice quite a few that barley paid the pizza bills of the development team, much less made their companies any money".

Not only is it clear that Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri did not fall under that category, but the game was only one of two to rack up more than 200,000 units sold with a final total of 224,939; that is just behind Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear at 240,503, and well ahead of third place Madden NFL 2000 at 155,071. -DanQ

CALL TO POWER II
ALL QUIET IN THE CTP2 FRONT
(13 March 2000, 16:06 EST) It is quiet obvious just by checking the CTP2 main page and the forums, no? We will propably have to deal with it for a while as the news from Activision are that the first public unveiling of CTPII will be at E3 during May 11-13. Don't worry though, we are working on a secret plan to kidnap Lt John and interrogate him... -MarkG

MISCELLANEOUS
HASBRO: PAYING DOWN THE DEBT
(13 March 2000, 21:21 EST) From Computer Games Online:
Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE:HAS) announced that it successfully priced a public offering of $750 million of long-term debt on Friday. The offering is the company's first long-term debt issue since 1998. The $750 million offering was comprised of $550 million of three-year notes and $200 million of six-year notes.

The net proceeds from the sale of the notes will be used primarily to pay down short-term commercial debts in connection with the acquisition of Wizards of the Coast, Inc. and repurchases of shares of Hasbro common stock.
