MING: Faces of Apolyton #8, 26/Mar/2002 (Part II, Page 3)

PART I

Chris: Do you think there is a multi-player future for civ-3?
Ming: Yes, but it will need some more changes... AND LOTS OF OPTIONS so that we can determine what kind of game we want to play.

Chris: Why did you volunteer to be mod of the Civ 3 forum, considering how busy you already were?
Ming: I'm already on the site all the time, and I knew I would be active in the Civ III forums, so why not.

Chris: Let's talk about the ACOL war with poly some.
Ming: like what? ;)

Chris: How did you feel when banned posters would go there to shoot off their mouths?
Ming: I have no problem with that, forum addicts that get banned need some place to go;)

Chris: As we both know, ACOL's owner hates our own MTG, and had it in for his supporters. Do you think this helped bring that board down?
Ming: I think it helped. But there was more to it then that. It's now a desert. A few of the posters still post, but most of them are far more active else where... (thank god for Counterglow)

Chris: Do you enjoy the freedom of being "off duty" with many of the people you have to mod for? I have come up against this myself, going from poster to moderator, and explaining that what the site owner wants isn't the same as what I want.
Ming: Damn right!
Remember, I was a poster long before I was a mod. I have to be reasonably nice at Apolyton (well, sometimes I'm not). I can go to Counterglow and have fun again.

Chris: Do Mark and Dan give you "free hand" to handle posters?
Ming: Yes, I have pretty much free reign to do as I wish. They have trusted me from the beginning, and I think I have earned that trust. We have had our disagreements, as can be expected, but overall, they think I'm doing a good job, so they let me do my thing. If they disagree, I hear about it.

Chris: What is your favorite moment as a moderator?
Ming: Two come to mind.

The first was back in the old days, during moderator wars when THE BRAT PACK had set up a hate site about me. It was pretty childish, and kind of funny. But they were discussing personal attacks against me.

I knew they had some kind of site out there, so I did a search on the overall site (geo cities) on the word "ming" Besides finding a bunch of historical forums, I found their site. Then registered, and POSTED... HA HA HA HA! At first, they thought it was a DL, and then you should have watched them scatter. I posted the link at Apolyton. It put a real shadow over all their whining! Shortly after that, they moved the site...
