MING: Faces of Apolyton #8, 26/Mar/2002 (Page 3)

PART II

Chris62: Always had this interest, or is it something that came up later in life, say college or later?
Ming: One of the first books I ever read was from my parents library. It was a collection of short SF stories, then I got into comics with Rah. We had an extensive collection, then bought old pulps… Weird Tales, Worlds of If… that kind of thing.

Chris62: Wow, worth quite a bundle these days. Comics! That was unexpected, tell us some of the titles you collected.
Ming: Many… Rah and I probably had 10 thousand or so comics. He liked Daredevil, I liked X-men, Nick Fury, Spider Man, Legion of Super Heroes.

Chris62: Mostly Marvel's 1960s classics, I see.
Ming: Well, I did grow up in the 60's. We were around when marvel first started.

Chirs62: Steranko's Nick Furies were way ahead of their time.
Ming: Steranko and Frazeta were brilliant, my favorite artists.

Chris62: I thought so, so Strange Tales must have been a favorite ;)
Ming: Damn right.

Chris62: Stan Lee was a genius, his work is still vibrant.
Ming: Anything that the "big boys" (Stan Lee & Jack Kirby) did was great. Stan Lee created a new style of comics, totally different than the traditional stuff coming out of DC.

Chris62: Yes, DC seemed to aim at 10 year olds, Marvel at college level.
Ming: Or even adults for that matter. I don't read or collect anymore, but many of my old friends still do.
