STEFU: Faces of Apolyton #7, 19/Mar/2002

Hello,
Welcome to the seventh installment of the Faces of Apolyton interviews. It looks like Ming is located somewhere at Mingapulco currently, and, because his interview is delayed, you are presented an interview with Stefu, the chief Apolyton smilie produces, a well known off-topic poster and simply a funny character with the right sense of humor. And we just can't forget that Stefu is the Chief Apolyton Finn :).

Next time, though, you can be sure to read the interview with Ming, as he will finally return.

Read on and enjoy,
ACS Interview Chief - Solver.

Solver: Our traditional question first - how did you get to Apolyton?
Stefu: Well, I was interested in Civilization the game, naturally. I believe my first touch was when visiting some friend of my mother's, whose son had the game, and after playing a bit, I just knew that here was something I just had to have. The game, not the son. I also was interested in the Internet, and naturally, the two connected, they connected like a pair of monkeys dipped in glue. I first lurked around in First Greek Civilization Site, and when it unified with Ultimate Civ Site, unified like a pair of monkeys dipped in glue, I started frequenting Apolyton. Then I found the forums, and here we are. In Idaho, naked.

Steelhc: What does your nickname, Stefu, mean?
Stefu: Well, see, here's a funny story. One day, my father told me about my cousin's school paper. He had done it in 3rd grade or so, and it had read "When I grow up, I want to be Tarzan. I'll kill hundred lions and eat them all." I couldn't stop laughing for 15 minutes.

The nickname's a funny story too. When I was getting ready to break free from maternal tyranny of Prison Womb, my brother and sister were checking out the Orthodox calendar. (Because we were Orthodox. Orthodox Christians, not Orthodox Jews -- I still have all parts of my dingel-dangel together.) Apparently, the name associated with my birthday (29.2, and yes, I've heard all the jokes you could possibly invent in your dime-sized mind), was Stefanus, so they exclaimed "whatever it's going to be, we'll call him/her* STEFU!" Then, when the time came to decide my moniker for forums, Stefu just seemed to... fit.

* Finnish, being superior language, doesn't make distinction between sexes in this particular manner.

Chris62: Do you actually play games, or just spend all your time writing parodies for net game sites?
Stefu: Well, shamefully, I've not been Civin' that much lately. I've participated in Finnish succession game, which is being conducted on the Finnthread, but you wouldn't know about that, being a foreigner and all that. I do game, though - currently, I'm playing Master of Orion I (day-um, there's a fine game) and trying to choose between Sid Meier's Gettysburg (The SidGame That Time And Newsweek Forgot) and Kings of Dragon Pass.

Chirs62: Where you behind the anti-Laz Finnish uprising?
Stefu: Hahaha, the America boy said "where" instead of "were"! Krhm. [Oops, I missed the mistake, and turned out to be quite funny – Solver].

No, no I wasn't. See, it all went like this. Laz posted his humor piece on here. Then someone whom I don't know posted a link to lively discussion board of Muropaketti, a Finnish hardware site. And it all happened from thereon forwards. Finns, you see, are very very very very concerned about Finland-image. Pathologically concerned. That's I, for instance, don't like that word, "Finlandization". We fought two wars against Soviet Union and didn't lose our independence, and we were able to have surprisingly neutral foreign policy for a nation living next to the Bear, so we aren't going to be defined as Soviet puppets by one word, consarn it. Whenever Finnish celebrity gains any kind of fame in the world, he or she becomes darling of the nation. Finnish magazines have been known to print stories about stories American magazines have written about Finland.

And so it was with Laz's humor piece. Finns are naturally interested in something like this, so many of us read that in Muropaketti and decided to pay a visit to that thread, Evil Evil Finland. That also led to registration. Laz can only blame himself on the fact that his penis looks like it has been through the blender. It's no use sticking it to a blender, I tell you! He can also only blame himself for the Finn-flux.

Chris62: Who do YOU consider the funniest poster?
Stefu: Now, this question is obviously designed so I can show a little humility and name someone like Laz. Well, I won't. Don't get me wrong, Laz is a funny guy, I love him from head to toes to penis that looks like it's gone through a blender, but main part of his fame seems to come from his use of British slang. Because of conditioning from Britcoms and such Americans and other non-Brits have received, everything looks funny if you stick few gits and bollockses to it. I'm funny, I'm the funniest, and I'm allowed to be egotistic little self-inflator about something, consarn it.

Chris62: Is Ming a bastard?
Stefu: Hey, you wanted some non-serious ones included! Ming is not a bastard! I tell you, Ming is not a bastard! He might be a liar, a thief, a scoundrel, a traitor, a bastard, but he is not a porn star!

But seriously, Ming is a good guy doing a big job, and should receive a lollipop. I've never understood anti-moderatorial attitudes of some people. We need tyrants to rule over us with iron fist, consarn it, or we'll be like ACOL, consarn it, consarn it.

Andemagne: What or who is it that inspires you?
Stefu: Jebus.

No, actually, I'm mostly inspired by stupid people and stupid stuff. Stupid people and stupid stuff are so easy to make to fun off. I also love to make fun of conventions of normal speech, and those little things people like to insert to their speech to make themselves look humorous or serious. If I catch myself overusing a phrase, I make fun of it, bonsarn it, fonsarn it. I also often take phrases straight out of Finnish language, translate them and then use them. You'd think I'd include one here, but I won't.
