DARKCLOUD: Faces of Apolyton #11, 09/Aug/2002
DarkCloud: What's the wierdest thing that you've discovered
in your archiving career?
DarkCloud: That's really
hard to answer.
1- It could be that fjxorc and Infatuation are compulsive archivers- but then
again, that's not too strange.
Or possibly 2- Christantine the Great and Fiera are actually men- but then again
that's not strange either.
Hmm... I always found Black Saturday sort of surreal.
I don't suppose much strange things actually happen here. Although the Apolyton
Chats can be sort of strange, when I reviewed some saved chats I noticed 2
things-
1- no one ever answered each others questions... and 2- everyone was just
talking to themselves. I had saved four pages where no one interacted with each
other. Everyone just went off into their own little universe, Including myself.
For example:
18:36:30 [ANNOUNCE] THE
PARTY IS HERE
18:36:35 [Kassiopeia] FrustratedPoet, your avatar gives me blood pressure
18:36:39 [FrustratedPoet] i've taken my sig away now I'm afraid
18:36:41 [Eli] *Moves to IRC*
18:36:44 [Shadowstrike] *stockpiles spam missiles*
18:36:45 [Locutus] actually this is a good thing: now I can just be plain old
Locutus, rather than 3733t LoQtS
18:36:55 [FrustratedPoet] Kassi: I thought you might like it
18:36:57 [rflagg] doh!
18:37:12 [Kassiopeia] I start looking for a man-sized sword and colour my hair
blond
18:37:21 [SovietBeast] lol
18:37:34 [SovietBeast] I need some help with a mod...
18:37:36 [FrustratedPoet] lol
18:37:54 [MarkG] rule #1: dont ask for your spam posts back
18:37:56 [rflagg] mods!
18:38:02 [Epistax] i got mail! i got mail! yeeaah! i got mail! yeeaah!
18:49:31 [Shadowstrike] Do we all get a 10% PCI? (Post COunt Inflation) as a
free give-away?
18:50:04 [SirRalph] Hi ANNOUNCE. I somehow missed to see you join.
18:50:07 [Kassiopeia] It's not food, it's artillery! *hurls another pie*
18:50:09 [Timeline] Thanks alot for posting that update
18:50:10 [Epistax] hey timeline, emergency turnchat
18:50:12 [GePap] may I ask, what happened in the civ3dem war?
18:50:20 [Spiffor] Timeline : did the storm abate now ?
18:50:32 [Timeline] we never got to it
18:50:38 [Spiffor] GePap : interrupted because of a storm, before we got to
Washington
18:50:44 notyoueither enters this room
18:50:50 [Timeline] its in the distance, i can still hear the thunder
18:50:51 [SirRalph] Yea, lets return to the turnchat. America must die
19:01:45 [DanQ] No, I am not really Dan Quayle... lol!
19:03:08 [MarkG] Shadowstrike, a serious note for a change: we want to do a
style like gamespot, were you will only be able to see for free the messages of
the last two days. beyond that, you'll have to pay $0,05 per thread and $0,01
per search
19:09:44 [Apocalypse] CTP is the most returned game ever.
19:09:44 [trickey] hey guys
19:09:50 [DarkCloud] Except those in Europa... Possibly?
19:10:05 [Locutus] actually, it was in the top 10 of best selling games 2 months
ago or so...
19:10:26 [DarkCloud] You know, the original looks A LOT like Civ III
19:10:26 [Locutus] not bad for a 4 year old game...
19:10:31 [DarkCloud] In terms of display.
19:10:36 [Locutus] 3 year...
19:11:00 [DarkCloud] 1999 CTP 1
19:11:01 [Apocalypse] Markos: Those people are on crack. It is sad when they say
that.
19:11:07 [DarkCloud] hola Ixnay.
19:11:20 [DarkCloud] Now that was bad.
19:11:34 [DarkCloud] Especially the HoMM attempt at battles- that was really
really tedious and bad.
19:11:35 [ixnay37] hello all
DarkCloud: Where can
one find your best lists (I haven't seen any yet, and I've been here since
December?)
DarkCloud: Hopefully the
list of lists (the question below this one) will help you. However, I know for
a fact that one or two are in the Off-Topic Archive, namely The first Apolyton
Hall of Fame, held in December 2000 with around 12 inductees (Including
Automatic Inductees, MarkG and DanQ.)
In addition, many are in the Apolyton/Community section, and you can probably
search the Civ III ideas archives for the Civ III lists. As for the Civ II and
Civ III democracy games lists- one is topped in Gramphos' Memberlist thread and
the other is hidden deep in the files of the Civ II Democracy game.
But, Generally, if you do a search in the Apolyton/Community section you'll
probably find a large amount of lists that even I have forgotten. As for any
other list, I suppose I can email them to you if you ask me nicely. ;)
DarkCloud: Could you
give us a quick list of the lists you've done so far?
DarkCloud: Well, from
most recent to oldest...
-Civ III Democracy Game Alphabetic Posters List (In Civ III Democracy Game- My
second list to be topped)
-Civ II Democracy Game Alphabetic Posters List
-Civ IV: The List</a>
(A fully categorized list of ideas for Civ IV, compiled around September 2001.
Many thanks to Rasbelin, Spiffor and Mongoloid Cow for assistance)
-Apoly Posters Who Have Met Other Apoly Posters (A much-incomplete OT list. But
it did list more Apolytoner meetings than any single list before. However, this
is not one of my favorite lists.)
-A list of Banned Apolytoners (Listed the bannings of Apolyton posters, what
they did to deserve it and how long punishment they received. Discontinued
because more people were banned than I had at first expected and it was proving
to be a hard list to manage. You can still find it in the Apoly/Community
section.)
-The Apolyton 100 (A list of the top 100 Apolyton posters with histories and
biographies of each; an ongoing work.)
-Locations List (Compiled so as to combine several Locations Lists [namely the
Civ II list and the Apoly/Community list] It now contains about 200 Apolytoners
locations and can be found in the Apolyton/Community section)
-Most On-Topic Posts List (A list compiled in the OT as a report, after OT post
counts were disabled, to show that the OTers DID post in the on-topic. It
contained analyses of how many posts were made on topic and rated from 50-75 of
the top posters on their posting activities. The Apolyton 100 grew from this
list.)
-Related Threads (In Civ III Ideas... It provided links in categories to every
topic discussed for ideas for Civ III. This was the most comprehensive Civ III
ideas cataloguing list since "The List" However, the shift to VBBoard from
UBBoard rendered the list useless as all threads were renumbered. This was my
first list to be topped)
-The Apolyton Hall of Fame (One of the most popular running OT lists. This list
is added to every few months with 11-14 members being elected each year. It is
meant to showcase the names of some of Apolyton's most important and famous
members who deserve to be remembered for their work at Apolyton.)
-The Apolyton Army (My first Off-Topic list. One of my favorite lists and, in
it's first iteration, a popular list in itself. It listed people with rank
based on the number of posts per day they had.)
-Civ III: Units 1.0 (A compilation of any and all ideas to deal with Units)
-Civ III: Cities 1.0 (A compilation of any and all ideas to deal with city
improvements)
-Civ III: Tribes 1.0 (A compilation of any and all ideas to deal with
Civ-Tribes)
