DARKCLOUD: Faces of Apolyton #11, 09/Aug/2002
DarkCloud: Which Internet forum do
you spend the most time at? (CGN, Apolyton, etc.)
DarkCloud: Well, lets see. I
started at Sidgames, but I only spent about a month there... Then I moved to
Apolyton and, ever since, Apolyton has been the board which I spend the most
time on per day.
Although, at times in the past, I have had strings where I have spent more time
at other forums, such as the old CGN
around October 2000, December 2000 (when I was made an OT moderator), January
2001 and Feb 2001.
Then came the FreeFireZone period From
Sept 2001 to Dec 2001 where I managed about 1000 posts between my main login and
myriad DL's. Then in April 2002 I spent more time at
Philosophyforums.com, where I am
currently a moderator.
However, currently, and it seems, for a long time in the future, I will be
spending the majority of my time at Apolyton, at least until I reach my current
goal of having the highest post count of anyone registered after July 27, 2000.
Thus, you can thank Solver and Chris62's large post counts for keeping me
around.
DarkCloud: What hobbies do you enjoy (besides list
creation)?
DarkCloud: On the internet, my favorite hobbies are
Website Creation and Website Directory Arrangements.
For example, I have several websites dedicated to arranging websites in
directory order. At all times I try to bring order to a disordered universe.
I have created several links sites and other sites dedicated to computer gaming
and other things.
Some links are:
http://home.att.net/~sjcfg/main.html (Apolyton: The Book- The Website for
the People of Apolyton)
http://home.att.net/~civgames/
(Civil Warring Civilizations II- A Civ Site)
http://home.att.net/~tivoligardens/ (Roller Coaster Tycoon United- Once THE
site For RCT)
http://home.att.net/~tivoligardens/simwood.html (SimWood Mall- A link
directory for Sims Sites)
http://home.att.net/~sjcfg/newnews.htm (New News- Satirical News)
And, in addition, I have several more sites hidden on my computer and have
designed one professional corporation's website, as well as the website for a
nonprofit organization.
On the old BBSes (Bulletin Board Systems) I used to play internet chess and LORD
(Legend of the Red Dragon), a massively multiplayer RPG. Although now, due to
the death of BBSes, I can no longer play those games anywhere. :(
But, as for real life hobbies, I still play RPG's in the form of Dungeons and
Dragons and internet chess in the form of real chess. I also act, and have
appeared in about three plays, in addition to working as light tech apprentice
once, light tech assistance once, and light tech supervisor once. I also
participate in a jeopardy-style community quiz game, that meets weekly and has
competitions monthly.
In real life I also play tennis, watch baseball, read Science Fiction (Harry
Harrison, Douglas Adams, Isaac Asimov) and Fantasy (Robert Jordan, JRR Tolkien,
Robert Asprin, Piers Anthony, Terry Brooks, Weis and Hickman, David/Leigh
Eddings, etc.) and I also read Harry Turtledove who can, sometimes be a genre
into himself. When I find free time, I write, as previously stated.
Finally, I play the piano (Rock and Roll, etc) and listen to Rock and Roll on
the radio (50's-75) Aerosmith being one of my favorite bands.
On computers, my hobbies include Heroes Chronicles, Hollywood Mogul, Baseball
Mobul, Civilization II, Age of Empires, Afterlife, Railroad Tycoon II,
Rollercoaster Tycoon, and (sometimes) The Sims.
DarkCloud: Do lists impinge on your non-'Poly life
much?
DarkCloud: No. Not really. However, if they start to
encroach on my non-Apolyton life, then they become no fun and I put an end to
work on whatever list it was that I was working on. (example: The Apolyton 100)
Lists, even incomplete lists, take a long time to compile, especially something
such as the Apolyton 100. For that list, I only did surface-work, looking at the
most recent threads, and yet it took somewhere between ten and fifteen hours for
version 1! And, if everyone can remember Version 1, version 1 was very buggy and
incomplete.
However, I thank people for contribuiting so that I could fix and repair version
1 into version 1.5... And nowadays we sit stranded on Version 2.0 because I
don't have the time to search the Off-Topic for the most recent happenings!
Although, when I do, I'll probably release the new version!
DarkCloud: How do you manage to complete these
massive lists without going insane or getting bored half-way through?
DarkCloud: Actually, that's happened before.
To ward against insanity, I have the following system: 1- Observe the site. 2-
Write as many list ideas down as I possibly can. 3- Pick a likely list idea. 4-
start work on it when I can. 5- assemble 6- rest 7- assemble 8- post. 9- update
I have many list ideas written down, but some wouldn't be considered interesting
to others, such as the list of when people get onto apolyton (observed from the
"Who's online feature" and thus, on second thought, never make it to step 8.)
