COLUMN ARCHIVE

Let me introduce myself. I am ¿ CyberShy ?, Vice President of an internet online club with about 500 members. An internet online club, a community. There are millions of these. Most people that spend more then 1 hour per day online belong to one...or more...

There are all types of internet communities.
Gamesite Communities ( Apolyton )
Game Communities (TS-community)
Music genre (Rock, R&B)
Band communities (Beatles, Queen, Spice Girls)
Chat Communities (SPiN Chat, mIRC)
Technicall Communities (Windows NT, Linux)
All purposes (The Riddler's Club)
Adult Communities (MarkG can tell us more about this ;-) )
Sport Communities (M-United, Chicago Bulls)

In the past people belonged to a sport-club, to a church, to a political party or just to the neighbourhood societ. Their schoolfriends....

But now in modern ages we don't want to be with people that just live 2 blocks away. No, we want to talk with people that share our interests. We want to go to a place where we can find good info about topics we like.

In every community there are readers, people that only read the info provided by others, there are people that prefer giving critic all the time. They critic the info as provided by others. There are info-providers, they share all they know. Their are organizers, those organize everything. Builders, people that build the pages etc. And of course we have the annoying people.

And now we get to the point, the annoying people. Annoying people are there in all sorts

    - Self Centrish people
    - People that like to ruin things
    - Power hungry people
    - complaining people

Self Centrish people are those that hardly give anything to the community, but are complaining about the things other people give. They always want more. They are never satisfied. They don't care about the ammount of time other people provided to the community.

People that like to ruin things are people that just destroy as made by others. Online we have the builders and the hackers. The builders are original guys, creative that serve the community, while hackers are the proud people that can destroy the work as done by the builders. BUT you can destroy things without technicall knowledge, you can ruin the atmosphere, start fights, cheat etc. etc.

Power Hungry people are people that want to be at the top. They dont care about what or how. They don't respect the people that are at the top, not because they're power-hungry but just because they're the smartest ones, or did most work. Power hungry people are begging for a good position all the time.

Complaining people are people that just don't get it. They don't understand that the work has been done in the free time of the organizer or builder. They don't understand that it's not all done to earn money, they don't understand that they don't have any rights but just should like it that they get what they do get. They complain about everything, know everything better but in fact don't do anything at all.

All these "annoying" share one thing, they think they do a lot for the community and can't be missed. They often say "ok, now I leave and you'll have to face it !" and everybody hopes "YES GO !" but unfortunately they never really go.

The question is, WHAT category do you fit in ? If you're in the wrong category, then change it for Apolyton's sake !
