Web Log continued

<Rasbelin>  XarXo, have you actually seen him playing golf?
<Propaganda>  Everyone is always a Democracy, and I tend to be a Communist civ myself.
<Chieftess>  strange, the chat froze.
<XOR>  Will we be able to create trade routes (luxury, resources) on peace negotiations?
<WarpStorm>  Always pick terrain for road building supplies and always build them, pretty soon you've hemmed in everyone else.
<Propaganda>  Even China, who should supposedly lean towards Communism, becomes a Democracy.
<panag>  he play with Ming and Rah
<XarXo>  yes, and don't ask me how
<Propaganda>  I'm all alone in the world.
<Ribannah>  Chieftess move the scroller up and down
<Aro>  Bye, everybody
<XOR>  like, peace in exchange for furs?
<panag>  propaganda , now that a nice piece of propaganda , .....
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  well, that is one way... but if the supply of ore is real low on a map, I have found that getting a good wheat/ore source is more important... or if there are the right harbors... great game.
<Propaganda>  I had to completely overhaul Communism, so that it is more attractive..I even skewed the modifiers, but they still go Democracy.
<panag>  nigh Aro
<WarpStorm>  s
<player1>  prop> maybe instead of toning down fav/shun they should have made Communism more usefull in peacetime
<panag>  Mike , ther should be air barbarians
<WarpStorm>  oops
<Ribannah>  yes harbors are often decisive
<panag>  and they should have towns !
<Propaganda>  Also, Soren, can we set aggression levels for governments themselves, instead of individual civs?
<Rasbelin>  BTW, one interesting thing is that Coracle didn't show up.
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  unfortunately, a civ's government choice is EXTREMELY iimportant, so the AI generally prefers the better gov (Rep/Dem in peace; Mon/Comm in war)...
<notyoueither>  and like, malls.
<WarpStorm>  Will there be team-based MP with allied victories? (third times the charm)
<rangers85>  panag, I don't think that would be added
<Propaganda>  Maybe have the option for both, where they balance themselves with each other.
<player1>  adding +100% worker bonus to communism makes sense. It's woker ideology anyway.
<panag>  keep that culture flip Soren
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  ...we didn' want the SMAC effect of a civ's personality being so strong that it screwed up their playing (a la Morganites)
<XOR>  Yes, but so far Communism is just like a replacement for war mobilization.
<Propaganda>  Aww, Soren, PLEASE PLEASE let us have modifiers for each government!
<panag>  but with the option ON / OFF
<Ribannah>  Why is Russia always so small?
<panag>  and more governments Soren
<panag>  Rib , you have to give them some settlers
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  hey, clture flipping has been seriously toned down since the initial release, so there was really no need to take it out of the standard game. We only included the check box for scenarios.
<Ribannah>  The Morganites are the best in SMAC!
<Propaganda>  have a 1-10 system where 10 is the higher this government would shun it's shunned government, by attacking and harassing the civ using it?
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  (it does work for the standard game though...)
<panag>  its because her attitude
<player1>  And maybe even lower corruption (they don't get trade bonus anyway)
<WarpStorm>  That's true, Soren, has anyone ever seen the Morganite's ever do well (I'm not even talking win)
<Darkness' Edge>  i don't think i have
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  rib: well maybe for the humans. In my experience Morgan had atrocious AI (usualy only 2-3 cities)
<WarpStorm>  Team Games with Joint Victory?
<Ribannah>  Warpstorm I always win easily with the Morganites, they're fantastic
<Rasbelin>  Please mark your PtW questions for the Firaxians with the : eager : smiley. It can be added by typing : eager : (without spaces).
<Ribannah>  Yes well the AI is not so good
<XOR>  Warp, I have seem morgan WIN the planet.
<Ribannah>  Morganites need to plan ahead
<XOR>  Via conquest, BTW.
<player1>  Uhm... forgot the question
<Propaganda>  :eager: Soren: for each government, there is a aggression modifier. With Communism, Democracy would see aggression of 7, Monarchy of 8, Despotism of 5 and Republic of 9, on a scale of 1-10.
<WarpStorm>  I can win with them too, I was refering to the AI, they couldn't deal with their unique expansnion requirement
<XOR>  I have seen the AI do it.
<Ribannah>  This the one?
<Propaganda>  so Communists would be belligerent towards Monacrhies, and Republics
<Rasbelin>  yes
<WarpStorm>  Team games?
<alva848>  has there been mentioning of an official realease date ?
<Rasbelin>  or this : surrender :
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  prop: that's an interesting idea... i believe there is an indirect way in which that does actually work in the game right now.
<panag>  do you guys have to stay with infogrames ?
<Hueij>  test
<Hueij>  test
<XOR>  Will we be able to create trade routes in peace negotiations? Like ofering peace for furs?
<Hueij>  yeah, finally.. it works
<Propaganda>  Soren, were you part of Microprose during Civ II days?
<WarpStorm>  I think Infogrames owned the name Civ.
<Hueij>  yeah, finally.. it works
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  team games... you can defintely ally with your friends... I'm not sure about group victory though.
<Hueij>  twice
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  we have two publishers: EA and Infogrames.
<Rasbelin>  Abit off-topic, but I'll have a go. Anything to say about the X-COM news? Any updates?
<Propaganda>  Microprose was publisher and developer, was it not?
<WarpStorm>  So, I'll have to backstab thm in the end
<Ribannah>  Bleh.
<panag>  what happend to Brian , Chris , Greg , Stephen Lee , Steve Chao and Tim
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  xor: unfortunately not, the trade network is intricately linked with peace/war states, so it would require at least twice the current processing...
<Propaganda>  panag, Big Huge Games?
<Propaganda>  Rise of Nations..
<Ribannah>  They are now all great leaders of the Civ civ
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  I am relatively new... joined the company 2.5 years ago right out of grad school.
<XOR>  It used to be possible in Civ3...
<Locutus>  panag, you mean the guys who founded BHG?
<panag>  they where there then Soren , .....
<WarpStorm>  So what do Ihave to do to get a job at Firaxis?
<Soren Johnson Firaxis> Greg (C and F) and Steve C are still here... Tim is at that, uh, other company. Brian and Chris have moved onto other things. I don't know who Stephen is.
<Propaganda>  They're developing a real-time game, Rise of Nations.
<Rasbelin>  Brian Reynolds is in Big Huge Games as the founder and Chris and the rest are clueless to me.
<alva848>  noob
<panag>  did all of them join them ?
<Propaganda>  Woops, was I supposed to advertise that?
<panag>  so , these are the guys who where looking at things in a small way then ?
<Propaganda>  Brian for a fact did.
<XarXo>  panag, they are creating Age of Civilizations... er... Rise of Nations
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  most of us are noobs... the company has done a lot of hiring since 2000
<Rasbelin>  alva, did you say noob? ;-)
<Propaganda>  Brian was a uh..major..part of Civ II development.
<panag>  MIKE , are those the hardcoders ? ,......
<Propaganda>  Same goes for SMAC.
<XarXo>  was a simply add this
<Propaganda>  He did the AI and design.
<alva848>  i Was just kidding off-course
<XarXo>  a great 'add this' one, but just this
<Rasbelin>  Please mark your PtW questions for the Firaxians with the : eager : smiley. It can be added by typing : eager : (without spaces).
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  2- minute warning...
<WarpStorm>  So what do I have to do to become a noob at Firaxis
<Rasbelin>  alva, there's always free tickets available to Siberia here. ;-)
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  panag: ;-)
<panag>  okay , have a nice day Soren !
<WarpStorm>  Soren, tell about a feature we wouldn't have heard of before
<alva848>  any news about railroads?
<Sonic>  Propaganda, Sid was the major part of Civ 2 development
<Propaganda>  Soren, would it be possible to rename your empire, mid-game?
<Kramsib>  wow, excusme I am very surprised, .... Hi, from Spain
<XarXo>  What about new resources in PtW? Like for example Chocolate, Drugs or similar
<Propaganda>  Mike wouldn't answer this, but I assume it's possible, since we have renameable leaders and units.
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  warpstorm: it's all about timing. I was about 2 weeks from accepting another job when I first heard anything back from Firaxis (I just sent a cold-call resume).
<panag>  :eager: , hey , its just to be sure Soren , ......? are those the ahem , people with limited fields of vision , .......?
<Carlos113>  hi Kramsib
<Ribannah>  Emperor level is too easy
<Rasbelin>  Anything to say about X-COM?
<XarXo>  hi Heimrich Kramsib
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  uh, no comment.
<Propaganda>  I have something to say about it.
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  alva: railroad are not changing...
<Rasbelin>  Really? ;-) No comments?
<Chieftess>  Will there ever be an option to allow for more barbarian type units?
<Propaganda>  The series was very fun.
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  prop: i haven't heard anything that would suggest that.
<Locutus>  panag, Brian is FAR from someone with a narrow vision, if that's what you're asking... I personally hold him in higher regard than Sid
<Oerdin>  Soren: Will there be any new governments in PtW?
<Kramsib>  I had some threads about several "What about?", maybe I can ask some questions....
<Chieftess>  that is, rather than just having 2 (warriors & horsemen)
<Ribannah>  I agree Locutus
<panag>  nachtraaf , probeer dan wat met de editor te spelen , ......
<Rasbelin>  Loc, how dare you!
<WarpStorm>  Any new features we haven't heard of yet?
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  chocolate and drugs --> please see the editor.
<Propaganda>  Soren, but would it be possible?
<Kramsib>  Do you remember de canals from Civ 2?
<Ribannah>  panag I play almost only deity now
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  panag: brian is great... Civ2 and SMAC are classics (obviously...)
<Propaganda>  If I conquer Germany with Russia and want to rename my new, hugely spacious empire to the Soviet Union.
<Propaganda>  Couldn't that be possible?
<Rasbelin>  Sid is the GOD as Markos said. Except that Sid can't be the Game Outlook Document.
<XarXo>  The difference is the age, Brian seems younger than Sid, Brian wants more wargames and Sid preffer something fun and similar to the reality, this is what I obtain from SimGolf
<panag>  no-no , its beer , chocolate and drugs
<Locutus>  Ras, Brian was the brain behind Civ2, SMAC and RoN... Sid doesn't seem have done an awful lot Civ-wise after Civ1...
<panag>  SID should join in a chat , ............
<XarXo>  yes Soren, but my idea of drugs is a variable amount of happiness each turn, how I implement this?
<Kramsib>  It was possible to cross the water even if ground squares were joined by their vertex
<WarpStorm>  Any new features we haven`t heard of yet?
<Propaganda> Actually, Brian likes to be a realistic, if he's making a game that follows all of human history. This is why Civ II was good as it was.
<Kramsib>  but it seems the question is about territory and resources
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  shouldn't drugs cut into productivity?
<panag>  are we going to get a canal ?
<Locutus>  that *would* be interesting, panag...
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  maybe more culture...
<Ribannah>  Yes
<Kramsib>  this question hurts, WHAT ABOUT EVENTS?
<XarXo>  they affect more in happiness
<Rasbelin>  Loc, I know, but Sid is Sid. Doh, IMHO both are nice.
<Propaganda>  which kind of drugs?
<XarXo>  x''''D
<panag>  the war against drugs , ...... hmmm , great scenario , ......
<Jon Miller>  let's keep it to civ3 PtW
<alva848>  could make a nice strtegie option/conflict
<Jon Miller>  I have a question
<XarXo>  sometimes +1, sometimes +2, sometimes -1
<Ribannah>  Lotus flowers
<Jon Miller>  will you be able to play through firewalls
<Rasbelin>  Please mark your PtW questions to the Firaxians with the : eager : smiley. It can be added by typing : eager : (without spaces).
<Locutus>  I'm not saying Sid is not nice, Brian is just better
<XarXo>  this represents the unrest that it cause in a civ
<Kramsib>  not so great without EVENTS
<Propaganda>  No more questions.
<XOR>  please, no more flipping...
<Jon Miller>  some of my freinds are behind a college one and I would liuke to play with them
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  ok, i better go before I get into trouble
<Locutus>  ras, oh, shut up ;-)
<Jon Miller>  please see my above question about PtW
<panag>  drugs or narcotics , ....... one is an english word for medicine , the other , well , its a word for mind opening stuff that can be lethal , .....
<Locutus>  we'd rather have you stay and get in trouble
<Kramsib>  ok, I repeat , WHAT ABOUT EVENTS ? :eager:
<XarXo>  remember that a great point that produced the decay of China as the world superpower was the Oppium introduction
<WarpStorm>  Drugs should give unhappiness when they are witheld
<Propaganda>  Take care, Soren.
<Oerdin>  Soren, will there be any new governments in PtW?
<Rasbelin>  Loc, you're comparing humans. Are you a slave trader? ;-)
<Ribannah>  Hm, a firewall as a new city improvement after the Internet is discovered
<Locutus>  but if you must, bye and thanks for coming...
<Jon Miller>  please, about playing through a campus firewall
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  loc: you should know that Ryan Meier (Sid's son) is sitting right next to me, so watch your mouth (or the goon squad will be on its way)
<alva848>  thanks Soren, have a good weekend
<panag>  okay , but then we need a virus as a weapon , ....
<Jon Miller>  have a good weekend
<Ribannah>  There! That proves Sid is old
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  oerdin: sorry, but no.
<Locutus>  krabsim, no events in PTW, it's on the wish-list
<panag>  Soren , are we going to get a canal ?
<WarpStorm>  Bye, have a beer with Mike
<XarXo>  Hey Ryan!!! Thanks for having a father like yours! It gave me hours of fun and intelligent gaming!!!
<Oerdin>  Thanks any way
<Darkness' Edge>  ahaha..
<Locutus>  Thanks for the warning, Soren, but I live on the other side of the planet, he can't touch me
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  adios, I will have a Beer with Mike (or "Beer") but not with Ryan. He's still a minor.
<Kramsib>  yes, canals, like Suez or Panama, I am fed up sailing so far to get the other side of the continent
<Sonic>  bye
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  You underestimate the power of Sid.
<Propaganda>  Sid fanatics are everywhere. You'll never escape his wrath!
<panag>  Have a nice weekend Firaxians
<Soren Johnson Firaxis>  see ya.
<Carlos113>  bye Soren
<alva848>  see you guys
<Propaganda>  They'll capture you, and perform Chinese torture tactics on you.
<XOR>  lol@prop
<Propaganda>  YOU WILL LOVE SID!
<panag>  dont drink and develop
<notyoueither>  cya soren.
<Rasbelin>  Do you have any inside news from colleagues on MPS or IFGM about the closure of MPS?
<Ribannah>  Skennen, Mike
<Kramsib>  Sid Please: LET THERE BE EVENTS !!!!
<Ribannah>  Whoops Soren
<XarXo>  Bye Soren!! Happy Civi'n Encodi'n
<XarXo>  xD
<Propaganda>  MPS isn't really closed yet, but its barely hanging by a thread.
<panag>  scripted events !
<Locutus>  until next time...
<Propaganda>  ..will not be in PTW.
<Rasbelin>  Propaganda, I know that, but I thought are friends at Firaxis might have clues.
<XOR>  OT: Who owns Civ2 now that MPS is no more?
<Ribannah>  Events will of course be part of the next expansion: "Screw the World"
<Rasbelin>  typo: our friends
<Darkness' Edge>  rofl
<Rasbelin>  Civ II is property of IFGM when it comes to the license.
<Kramsib>  it seems there is no more firaxians to hit here.
<XarXo>  XOR: Infogrames, it was owned by Hasbro that owned Microprose
<panag>  tsssssss , what voor een taal zeg , ..... nu krijg je nooit je indiaantjes flag , ....
<Propaganda>  I had Civ II from 1998, I bought CtP shortly after, and I'm now a proud owner of CtP2.
<XarXo>  (I believe)
<Kramsib>  with our sharp requests
<Propaganda>  In truth, I wouldn't be as proud, if there wasn't such a great mod community.
<Chieftess>  I've had Civ2 since 1996.
<Jon Miller>  I bought Civ2 the day it came out
<Kramsib>  I bought Civ 2 in 1997
<Locutus>  thanks Prop CtP2 does indeed rock
<Ribannah>  I never had CtP
<Rasbelin>  I guess the PtW chat is now over. Thanks for the participation!
