Chat With Ancient Prophecy Programmer; October 18th, 1998

[Blue]- Inquisitor
[Red]- Programmer

[Inquisitor] 3D terrain, tactical combat...anyone want to help me on this...
[Inquisitor] tactical combat?
[PeterAP] yep, fully customized units, landscape, moral, etc
[Inquisitor] So a kind of civ game thats also a proper war game
[PeterAP] civ2 is a great game but it is old and we have waited way too long for something better, we have created a combination which we hope will provide an all new experience but it remains a civ game
[Inquisitor] Peter what do you think of Activision's CTP?
[PeterAP] check out: http://www.synesthetix.com
[Inquisitor] Looks very good, yet it still lacks some of the things I would love to see in a civ game. I am still a gamer and I will buy CTP along with Alpha...waiting for them with alot of impatience
[Inquisitor] have you put any stupid things like ectopias and lawyer units in it? (without reference to CtP...)
[PeterAP] NO
[PeterAP] hehe
[Inquisitor] btw, i cant read the writing on the web site without highlighting it
[Inquisitor] what's wrong with lawyers?
[PeterAP] its ridiculous
[Inquisitor] However, there does appear, from your earlier comments, to be a monster unit. How does it fit in?
[PeterAP] if I play another civ2 game or another moo2 I am going to flip out :)
[Inquisitor] lawyers destroying production with...lawsuits???
[PeterAP] no its not lump it adds an interesting element to the game
[Inquisitor] its a fantasy world, would it be complete if your hero did not run into a goblin or dragon now and again!!
[Inquisitor] well, i hope im convinced when it comes out, units with tellies for heads sound pretty stupid to me though
[Inquisitor] So the fantasy units are not actually things that you build in your civ?
[Inquisitor] Peter, can you explain the "goal of the game" part again? :)
[Inquisitor] But are more like barbarians? .
[PeterAP] we will see it might be fun, that is the point and I hope that it brings something cool
[Inquisitor] ok
[PeterAP]The goal of the game is to run a civ like any other including diplomacy trade etc...yet your god is impatient to rule to world
[PeterAP] The game has an evolution as all civ games, it does not however follow human evolution
[PeterAP] One must make the civ grow ans prosper in proportion to this your god will be stronger or weaker
[Inquisitor] what kind of evolution does it have?
[Inquisitor] magic and things?
[PeterAP] An evolution within a fantastic world, thus never to the Nuc. Bomb, your modern unit might have a laser sword and a new full suit but it will remain fanastic
[Inquisitor] it sounds very original
[PeterAP] so we hope :)
[Inquisitor] will it have a similar format to civ2?
[PeterAP] An update this week will reveal how the map looks along with units on the map
[Inquisitor] i.e. maps with city windows and various other lesser menus
[Inquisitor] format meaning what?
[PeterAP] The interface will be much more detailed yet it will remain simple, we refuse to simply give you something you already know
[PeterAP] it would be easy to release another civ game as we know it, but it would satisfy no one, let Microprose play that game
[Inquisitor] why did you choose to make the leaders the high priest type figure rather than the god himself?
[PeterAP] The god will play a seperate entity with an ego and a way of reacting, this increases the gameplay plus if you were a god, we would have to justiify your limitation which is kind of hard
[Inquisitor] what can the god do to you?
[PeterAP] hmm, well, the gods could be unable to interact directly to the real world except through their worshippers
[PeterAP] He cannot destroy you but if he is annoyed...he can make life a little harder...curse your troops, create nasty little diseases..
