Chat With Ancient Prophecy Programmer; October 18th, 1998

[Blue]- Inquisitor
[Red]- Programmer

[MarkG] One thing that made CivII nice in terms of diplomacy was the way in which different nations behaved/reacted in negotations.
[MarkG] These effects were based on historical facts and how the actual game "unfolded".
[MarkG] Will AP do so similarly? In other words, what can you tell us along the lines in terms of AI diplomatic skills?

[MarkG] Will we see just a "static" response no matter what AI Civ we talk to?
[PeterAP] This will be the same, they will react to what you do, how you act, what your intentions are, what you did in the past...etc
[PeterAP] No not at all, A military race will not act the same way a trade race will...The personalites of the race will be dictated by the race and what standing they have
[MarkG] All right! Speaking of trade...
[PeterAP] Many of these things are still in question and this is why we ask for your feedback
[MarkG] What can you tell us about it in AP? (i.e. types of resources you can trade)?
[MarkG] Or is this still in question as well?
[PeterAP] One will be able to trade all recources present...First of all contruction material, food, and techs but not as a whole discovery simply as points which will help you discover that tech, more like a trade of knowledge and being taught by a civ
[MarkG] Will there be a maximum number of trade routes a city in your civ can establish? That was rather annoying in CivII.
[PeterAP] No maximum will be set, you will none the less have to promote movemnt towards certain cities, All recources will be traded within your cities without any real limit
[MarkG] Great!
[MarkG] Now onto resources.
[MarkG] First of all, what types of resources will be available throught the game (i.e. fish, gems, game etc.)?
[PeterAP] The specific ones have not all benn defined, one will have mines, trees, food...etc but all of thel have not yet been graphicly represented
[PeterAP] Another one will be a kind of nectar which willplay an interesting role
[PeterAP] That on the otherhand I will leave as a surprise :)
[MarkG] Ok [grin]
[MarkG] Also on resources, what "development" options will be available to harvest these resources (i.e. roads, railroads, irrigation)?
[PeterAP] I want you to look within your wildest imagination!! Roads will be present but other things such as mines will also exist, beyond that it is all up to your tech tree...The ways will be based on a fantasy context and thus will be farely creative, yet siple to understand
[MarkG] Interesting!
[PeterAP] Remember that the Fantasy aspect allows us to evolve in unseen ways
[MarkG] One final note on resources: pollution. Can it come into play at all and if so, how?
[MarkG] I thing this is a good time to go to unmoderated mode....
[PeterAP] I agree
[MarkG] This channel is now unmoderated
[PeterAP] Polution we are not sure of
[MarkG] Anybody can now ask Peter. Questions but please dont rush we have plenty of time
[PeterAP] Yes, one at a time please and if possible, don't address questions already discussed. Let me ask a question, what is your general feeling about what I have said
[MarkG]I do not have a general feeling... yet :)
[Inquisitor]V good answer... :)
[MarkG] I'm a bit confused on the fantasy character of the game. Eitherwise I see many great changes...
[MarkG] I mean that I'm used to the real world model of civ2...
[PeterAP] The fantasy aspect will wllow for new things along with Hero aspects, searches for unique items and quests of all kinds along with monsters...etc
[Inquisitor] Will you have scenarios on the game? And will the players be able to create scenarios?
[Inquisitor] I will though when I know what type of game you are trying to make (sorry but I'm still unsure :)) Do you plan to make an advanced form of Civilization type game or a game just based on the engine/idea of Civ that uses completely new units/theory/storyline/gfx... or is this game not going to be in any way related to Civ?
[Inquisitor] As the fantasy aspect seems to be the feature that is most different from civ2, it is perhaps the feature that you could devote more space to explaining on your webpage as you develop that idea
[PeterAP] ok for that you should check out the site: http://www.synesthetix.com
[PeterAP] It is I believe new and different
