Chat With Ancient Prophecy Programmer; October 18th, 1998

[Blue]- Inquisitor
[Red]- Programmer

[MarkG] Hmm... is there going to be magic-type technologies? what were your influences in creating this fantasy world?
[PeterAP] Yes Magic will be present, however it will be limited, We want to avoid the ultimate weapon which can simply end a game
[PeterAP] Our influences were a variety of things, mostly our own imagination and alot of help from our graphists who never cease to amaze us
[MarkG] Any connection to Lord of Rings, or something like that?
[PeterAP] Not all that much, Lord Of the RIngs is a classic but we are trying to avoid any great influences
[PeterAP] We wnat the game to dictate the story and not the other way around if that makes any sence
[DanQ] Can you tell us what forms of governments will be available in AP?
[DanQ] And perhaps a little "profile" of each (pros, cons etc.)?
[DanQ] For a change of pace...
[PeterAP] That is still under GREAT debate, as we are trying to create different forms, what I can tell you is that your people will get more inteligent over time and thus your job will become harder...The smarter your people the more they will oppose you in your will
[PeterAP] This is where assasination, bribing will come in handy
[MarkG] I think I read on the site the possibility of losing your position as a leader....
[MarkG] Can your people revolt just by themselves(not the civ2 way)?
[PeterAP] Yep!!! You will still play a role but you will be limited by another power, how you get rid of you oppositon will be lets say....up to you...just dont get caught
[PeterAP] No nto the Civ2 way, that was beyond annoying
[MarkG] Can you assasinate another civ leader, or is it too much?
[PeterAP] if you are doing well in your reign, you have no worries...lose a couple of great battles and generaly mess up...and a minister will or some ministers will revolt
[PeterAP] Anothe leader...you can sure as hell try
[PeterAP] getting caught would be a disaster
[MarkG] get hanged? :)
[PeterAP] How your people react is one thing, how that country reacts is another
[MarkG] can you give some examples?
[PeterAP] the game will not end when there is a revolt, nor when you mess up it will just become a different way of playing and you will need to react!
[PeterAP] Ok, if you infiltrate a country with your spies...one of your spies will ultimatmly be able to play a role as a minister or mayor
[PeterAP] This will give you certian advantages when the other leader is trying to pass new laws :)
[MarkG] are ministers like the civ2 advisors?
[PeterAP] less static, they will actually have a role, as they will have loyalty to you or another
[DanQ] What factor(s) will influence their attributes?
[DanQ] (i.e. your civilization being a Democracy; economic conditions etc.)
[PeterAP] This sounds very confusing, but it will be simple to handle
[DanQ] Oh ok.
[DanQ] Onto diplomacy...
[DanQ] What plans do you have in store for it?
[DanQ] Will it be similar to the diplomatic interfaces of CivII or are you planning an overhaul?
[PeterAP] Your leaders will sometimes come from nowhere, othertiles they will be generals, sometimes they will prove their worth as a citizen, all will have according attributes
[PeterAP] Overhaul
[DanQ] Can you gives us some specifics?
[PeterAP] The evolution if your diplomqcy will be much larger
[PeterAP] Things will not be One minute Peace and all of a sudden War
[PeterAP] Belligerence, Cold Wars, Trade Wars will all be possibme
[DanQ] Will there be any differences in this interface when dealing with a human or computer-controlled civ?
[PeterAP] It will be in the sense that you will know when it is a human player, if different options will be present we have not yet discussed this
[DanQ] Ok, in CivII whenever another Civ wanted an exchange of diplomats, it was automatic.
[DanQ] Has their been any discussion how do address this in AP?
[PeterAP] Yes, diplomats will not at all be automatic, one will need to be in good terms for this, if things go bad you will be able to kick out that ambasodor from your nation
