  • We're in a golden age of television, right?

Set in Miami, the series will detail the surprising and unforeseen events that take place in the life of Jane Villanueva, a hard-working, religious young Latina woman whose family tradition and a vow to save her virginity until her marriage to a detective is shattered when a doctor accidentally artificially inseminates her by mistake during a checkup. And to make matters worse, the biological donor is a married man, a former playboy and cancer survivor who is not only the new owner of the hotel where Jane works, but was also her former teenage crush.

That set up does sound a little bit contrived.

Guynemer, DrS--how frequently do you accidentally artificially inseminate your patients?

Accidentally AND by mistake. In medical parlance, this is known as a "compound error"; it triples both your Malpractice Bonus Points and the time it takes your staff to code it and bill it to insurance. I predict the series will end when Jane makes enough money suing the doctor to just buy the hotel where she works.

Based on a Venezuelan telenovela. That explains a great deal.

Because accidental artificial inseminations by mistake are common in Venezuela? Damn socialist healthcare!

Well, I've only been exposed to the Peruvian healthcare, but the culture of machismo in that country was such that I could imagine a doctor being rather casual with semen, yes. Mostly his own, but possibly other men's as well. Garcia, the president whose term expired while we were down there, was wildly popular. I assumed it was because he was personable or a wise leader or something, but no, a Peruvian told me men loved him because he refused to be embarrassed when confronted with his love-child. Or was it love-children?

Every leader that respects himself has at least three love children and/or gets artificially impregnated when going for a routine mole removal.

I know this was intended to be a satirical OP, but the show "Jane the Virgin" has been highly acclaimed by critics. So probably not what was intended.

However, yes, we are in the Golden Age of Television.

                        I'll say it's a golden age when 5% of shows don't suck.

Hell... 1%. Let's go for that first.
