    JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

    Ridgeland police chief Jimmy Houston confirms that Attorney Mark Mayfield has been found dead at his home in the Bridgewater subdivision.

    We're told he was found in his garage with a gunshot wound.

    It is being investigated as a suicide.

    In May, 57-year-old Mayfield was arrested and charged with conspiracy in relation to a political scandal.

    The 28-year-old blogger, Clayton Kelly, allegedly went into a nursing home and photographed the bedridden wife of Republican U.S. Senator Thad Cochran without permission and posted an image online as part of an anti-Cochran video.

    It's not clear the exact role that Mayfield played in obtaining or spreading the photo.

    Mayfield was a Board member of the Central MS Tea Party.

    Governor Phil Bryant has sent out a statement about the incident: "Deborah and I are saddened to hear of the loss of Mark Mayfield. He was a long-time friend, and he will be missed. Our prayers go out to his family in this tragic moment."

    Also, aside from the reference here, WTF is the "thad cochran wife photo scandal"?

    The only thing I know about this Cochran business is that he's apparently a loony old man who appealed to black people for votes. And during ht election, the tea party people sent out "monitors" to intimidate black voters.

    And apparently, Obama shot him and made it look like a suicide... because nobody kills themselves in a garage.

      Clayton Thomas Kelly, a conservative blogger from Pearl, was arrested Friday (May 16) and charged with felony exploitation of a vulnerable adult for allegedly sneaking into a nursing home, photographing the bedridden wife of Republican U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran and posting an anti-Cochran video online, which used the photo. Rose Cochran, 72, has lived at St. Catherine's Village since 2000 and has dementia.
      McDaniel immediately denounced the video when it went public and stated that it was not connected with his campaign. The video was pulled offline AFAIK.

      But the blogger (Clayton Kelly) is not the dead guy (Mark Mayfield). So there's obviously more to it than that.

                      I'm on McDaniel's side of it. I don't see how on earth it would help McDaniel. It makes perfect sense for Thad to set it up and blame McDaniel.

                            The same folks that saw Cantor go down have a vested interest in propping up Thad. They ran an incredibly nasty and dirty campaign.

                            I honestly don't see why anyone on the McDaniel campaign would touch something like this with a 10 foot pole. It makes zero sense.
