Version 5 of Civilization as posted by MPS in the Compuserve gamers forum. Apparently it fixes the Advisor lockups at the chieftain level.

 Civ Patch (Win) v2.0
|
The official upgrade for Civilization for Windows from Microprose. To my knowledge, it is only a performance enhancement and has no new features. This file comes from the Microprose BBS.

Changes and fixes in Patch 3
----------------------------
- LANGUAGE SUPPORT
CivNet now includes four different languages to choose from: English, French, Spanish, and German. Language selection may be performed within the game or in the CivNet.ini file (located in the Windows directory.) Modification of the INI file should be done in the [Language] section, under the "SayWhat" entry. A language prompt may also be displayed before gameplay by adding adding a new entry in the [Language] section called "AlwaysAsk=1".
- MISCELLANEOUS BUG FIXES
This patch fixes the "Cannot write to AUX" message that showed up intermittently in patch 2. Sorry about that!
Many of the gameplayers reported bugs online and through technical support lines at MicroProse. These bugs have been squashed and the fixes are included. We always appreciate the customer feedback, and try to incorporate as many fixes as possible in each patch. If there is a bug or fatal error occurring in your copy of CivNet, please report it and we will correct the problem as soon as possible.

What is CivHackFAT?
CivHackFAT is a "fat" system extension (or INIT) that fixes a problem many people have running the MicroProse's Civilization(TM) on PCI-based PowerMacs under System 7.5.2 and on all PowerMacs under 7.5.3. Running this extension should solve at least one class of problems with Civ on PowerMacs.
Why CivHackFAT?
Why indeed, since there's a CivHackPCI out there that basically does the same thing. The reason is technical: CivHackPCI patches a PowerPC-native trap with 680x0 code. This is fine when running old 680x0 applications, but generates unnecessary (and very slow) mode-switching when running PowerPC-native applications that like to twiddle the color cursor (e.g. NewsWatcher). CivHackFAT solves this problem by applying a "fat" patch of both 680x0 and PowerPC code. CivHackFAT also provides information about whether it loaded correctly at startup time, which CivHackPCI does not.

Updated Sound Drivers for Civ (DOS)
These are new sound drivers for the game Civilization for DOS. They are not useful with Civilization for Windows. For the Pro Audio Spectrum 16, they provide more voices than the Soundblaster driver, and in stereo.
This file was downloaded from the Microprose BBS. The following is the file README.SND from this archive:
New sound drivers for Civilization
Due to the continued popularity of MicroProse's best seller, Civilization, your friends in the MPS Sound Department have created new sound drivers to support the latest sound cards.
Support is added for all OPL-3 based FM cards (Pro Audio Spectrum Plus, 16, Studio; Sound Blaster Pro, 16, 16ASP, AWE32; AdLib/Cardinal Gold; Microsoft Windows Sound System; and all compatibles) and for any General MIDI card or external synth via a standard MPU-401 type MIDI interface. The General MIDI driver is optimized for the Roland SCC-1, but works well on any GM device.
Installation
First unzip this archive to your mps\civ directory, then run 'SOUND' (in the Civ directory) to specify your card's type and address. As you run Civ, when it asks you what sound card you are using, select #6, Custom sound driver. Enjoy!
Included Files
SOUND.EXE - sound install program
PSOUND.CVL - Pro cards (OPL-3) driver
GSOUND.CVL - General MIDI sound driver
CONFIG.SND - sound card configuration file
README.SND - this file
