I found a Modpack at Civfanatics which I really like, and I think it would be good to use for diplogames for a few reasons;
1) It adds new civilizations which I think would be fun to play as (Israel, Brazil, Mexico, Hittites, Timurind, Champa, Aborigines etc.)
2) It has new ethnically inspired skins for units and cities that look amazing, now you will have units that fit better all the way up to the modern units. I will post some screens showing this.
3) It adds new civics, which will make the game more challenging and dynamic.
4) It adds Hellenism as a new religion, which could add to storylines (there are also mods with Zoroastrianism, Nahulism, Amun-Ra which we could also add to spice it up).
5) There are two new great people types; great doctor and great statesmen. I haven't used/got the great statesmen unit yet, which is kind of dumb on my part because I should have tried to when I tested it, but the great doctor can spread plagues, which would be cool to do.
6) There are inquisitors that remove religion and lawyers which remove corporations which are pretty cool too.
7) It adds new traits which will add a dimension that may level the playing field a little (at least at first) for those of us who aren't that good and for those of us who are.
8) It also adds new leaders to existing civs (Caligula, Hitler, King George III, Dido, etc.) that you can play with as well.
It is called Thomas' War, its a really fun mod and its multiplay compatible. I suggest you check it out, here is the link RIGHT HERE, so if you want check it out.
I will forewarn you though, there is an annoying known bug that if you go to the units section and select a unit the game will crash, but if you want to check out the abilities they have. I hope you enjoy it, have fun guys, and let me know what you think.

I'm glad that we don't have such 'great doctors' overhere in Holland.
We may be a bit backwards, but our doctors try to heal plagues instead of spreading them.
Apart from that, I'll check it out.

Sounds like a huge mod that will slow the game down quite a lot.
Plus, we already have a thread for diplogame mods.

I'm actually trying to install the sdk....
maybe I'll get used to it and I can make beautyful things.
Maybe I'll suck at it and I won't get anything done.
maybe maybe maybe....

A lot of the mods we need don't need the SDK. They can be done with just XML and Python.

I can't get it to work...
the readme says put it in the civ 4 folder/customassets/python which I did.
Am I as idiotic as Capo or even more so...

Yeah, it's good.
Abo's are a civ btw. That's how they'd see it. They weren't just nomadic either. Some tribes actually had permanent settlements with solid bildings in Victoria I believe (southern Australia).

Custom civs are generally fairly unbalanced.

I don't think its important, its just a game.
I don't know enough about the Aborigines to comment, but I am sure they have a religion (or belief system), a language, some form of art, concept of a group or groups (ie semblence of tribe, nation, people), some form of military or defensive function, music, social norms, etc.
I don't know if all of that constitutes a civilization, but as far as I know all you need for this game is a leader and a citylist, and they have that.
