New Map types Support Apolyton

Can anyone explain the new map types in 3.17. In particular what does Random Map Script do, what is the point of teutonics, and how does Earth2 differ from terra.

Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

Tectonics generates a map that tries to emulate plate tectonics so you should get mountain ranges where "plates" meet (rather than random peaks scattered around) and great plains areas without many (any?) mountains at all. There may be more to it but that's the general gist.

I think earth2 is the same as terra but civs also start in the new world.

Got spare money?

The new "rocky" terrain subchoice works well if you want more hills. Gives you more mountains too, which aren't much good for anything except channeling the bad guys. Works great for playing the Celts, with their "guerrila" promotions. Makes archers and longbowmen a little more useful too.

I am curious about Earth2 myself. I've tried tectonics, which seems to produce maps with more bunched up territory, especially grouping mountains.

This post gives a brief description of some of the new map types. As mentioned in that post, CivFanatics contains more detailed information. The thread for Earth2 is here, the thread for tectonics is here, and the thread for Random Script Chooser is here.
