Looking for Online Game - MacUser Reduex! Support Apolyton, buy GURPS/ Alpha Centauri

Hi, I'm the youngest son of MacUser (used to play and post here) I'm looking for someone to play Civ II MPG. My dad warned me that I might be up against some seriously experienced players (he warned me about Ming, RAH, Scouse Git and Alexander's Horse!), but I'd really like to play against humans; I've been told to "read the rules." I'll keep an eye on this forum to see if anyone want to play or knows how to find Civ II players.

Support Apolyton, buy Civilization: The Boardgame

Welcome! The Chicago gang are the most active (Ming, Rah, -jrabbit, one or two others). RealLife™ seems to have overcome most of us, though. Sigh.

Got spare money?

Ming and Rah and those guys play Civ4. No one is really left playing Civ2. Besides, Ming and rah play with the worst settings you can find.

How do you play Civ2 on a Mac? I have been shut out since I moved to system X.

Try this... Civ II Gold (X hack).

It's a bit rough around the edges, but it was pretty playable about a year ago... sans some graphics issues. Granted I've not tried it on an Intel based machine... so no promises there.

Welcome! Glad to see he passed on the bug. Your dad vanished from the boards rather abruptly a few years back... I had always hoped that nothing bad had happened. Tell him Brian says Hi if you get a chance.

Insane -

OK, I tried the download. The application can't find the CivII files. I can't either. I have an Intel Mac, and it can't use system 9.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

The download only contains the application. You would need to have Civ II already installed on the system. Assuming you have Civ II installed, you'd just replace the OS 9 version of the application with the one you downloaded.

I can't recall off the top of my head whether Civ II had an installer, or was a drag & drop install. If it required an installer, getting it onto your Intel Mac might be a problem.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Hey ya'll! MacUser Sr. here! I'm using the boy's signon 'cause I can't find or remember my ACS password!

Civ II for Mac should be all drag and drop folders. Create a "Civ II" folder (name doesn't matter) on your hard drive. Now drag and drop the "Civilization II Files" folder from the CD into that new main folder. Next open the "Civilization II Gold" folder and drag the "Civilization II Gold 1.0" Classic Application to the new "Civ II" folder, likewise the "Civ II Map Editor" app if you want it. This gives you version 1.0 with all the bugs, somewhere on the ACS site (or somewhere out on the web) you need to find the Ver. 1.1 Patch to fix bugs and make it more playable. Now there was an installer, but you just did everything it did (as far as I know.) The original Civ II CD is a bit different. There were several options for how much to install, for example movies and music, depending on your hard drive size and whether or not you had a 68K or PowerPC processor (wow! remember way back when?). Otherwise the steps are the same.

Now here's the real rub. I have NO experience with the Intel processors. I'm running Civ II as a Classic Application in OS 9 within OS X 10.3.9 on an iMac PPC G5. So based on the earlier post, I'm assuming that instead of the "Civilization II Gold 1.0" Classic Application you would use the downloaded Intel compatible application. Good luck!!

I Play Civ II MGE on a Mac from long years.
But I keep an old PowerMac, under Sys 9 for some applications I have, for my SCSI peripherics (I know, it's out of date !) and for Civ II and its scenarii
I have also a IMac with Intel CPU, but I know I'll never play Civ II on it.
I can play Civ IV...
