This caused me some problems and it's not documented anywhere, so I wanted to post it here in case any of our community needs helps.
If you have to save an MP game for whatever reason (usually because one of the players dropped) then you can load it again only in one way:
Go to Teams and Allies, click the drag down bar, and click Saved Game.
It's hidden and not particularly intuitive, but it works. (Note: you have to have all the players present in the game room to successfully load the game.)
