It certainly is!

There hasn't been much to report on lately because we had JUST started paying our coder when I had a pair of heart attacks.

Medical bills mounted, and I had to make a choice between continuing to fund development of the game or take care of stuff on the homefront.

We're nearly back on the straight and narrow, and as soon as we are, I expect things will begin churning along nicely again.

When this game finally comes out I'm going to be one of the first to buy it, even if I never play it. That said, I'm sure it will be a lot of fun to play, considering the amount of time and effort you and your team have put in. I still remember your original concept thread that you wrote shortly after Civ3 came out. With all that you and the game have been through, your determination to see it through is truly inspiring.

But thank you...the team is the reason, really.

If it had been just me, I'd have quit when my health took a turn for the worse, but the people I've gotten to know during this process, and the friends I've made...they're too inspiring to me to WANT to quit.

My first visit to 'poly for several months and of course I have to check in on Candle'Bre... and I read this!

I'm sorry to hear about your health troubles, Chris. I'm sure you're dealing with things philosophically, optimistically and with good humour as always. Hope you are feeling well now - and that you stay that way!!

Thank you to everyone, and my apologies for being slow on the draw to reply here!

My health has made steady improvement of late, and we're motoring ahead at a slow and steady pace. Soon, the hope is that we'll be back to the place where we can start paying a coder (again) and get stuff wrapped up.

BTW...everyone who warned me that this would be rediculously hard was...right.

Absolutely, 100% correct.

In my mind tho, that just makes it MORE worth doing, you know? Hell, we can't quit now...

Hard does not begin to describe it.

Good to know that there is no intent of giving up. Candle'Bre is almost as impossibly ambitious as my own project(s), and it's nice to know there are other people as crazy-stubborn as I am working on these kind of things.

Hello, and my apologies for being absent.

The reason for that absence will soon become apparent, as I am about to strike up a new thread here, which will likely be of interest to those who are, and have been following the project through its various ups and downs.

Strategy! GREAT to see you again, and you're right...hard does not even begin to describe it!

Vmx1, there will *definitely* be a book for this game! A whole slew of them, actually. Strategy guide, trilogy of novels (two completed already, the third in planning stages), and more.

I've got to put the final coat of spit and polish on the thing I'm getting ready to unveil, and then I'll be back here to start a new thread!

Hmmm, I only discovered this project today thanks to seeing Vel's sig in the Assassin Creed thread. Who needs Brian Reynolds when we have Vel designing a TBS game.

Reynolds though, has the advantage of having a paid position and staff....we're a volunteer project. I'm gonna try to do you folks proud, but just remember that, sans resources, it's not gonna be quick!

Thanks man! And on that note....progress inched forward a bit more this past weekend. Another milestone reached with the backstory (four books total, that are serving as the "history" of the realm....3.8 done so far!), and I'm chewing through -- slowly-- some new material for the prototype (social power matrix and model)...fun stuffs!
