Wardell on Reinventing "Galactic Civilizations"
In the second of a three-part Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords feature exclusively for Apolyton Civilization Site, computer software developer and publisher Stardock Systems Founder and Chief Executive Officer Brad Wardell talks about reinventing Galactic Civilizations in its PC sequel. Here's an excerpt:

It was Spring 2003 and Galactic Civilizations had been released just a couple months before. The game was slowly making its way into retail. In February 2003, the game was considered an also-ran by many. Master of Orion III would soon be out and that obscure indie game would be quickly forgotten. And who could blame people for thinking that? That's what we thought.

Watch for the third and final part to be released sometime next month; its title is not yet being disclosed in advance.

Nice article! Very entertaining read. Looking forward to the next part.
I think the failure of MoO3 really put GalCiv on the map. Disappointed MoO3 players needed their fix and ended up finding it in GalCiv.
GalCiv2 is going to be much, much better. Really looking forward to the game. A good 33 hours and it will be available!

I definitely picked the wrong one back in 2003 (and then didn't have the money to buy GalCiv at the time).
Looking forward to finally correcting that mistake.
The article was an excellent read - one of the better ones that I've seen on 'poly.

Well I was lucky to have enough money back then to buy them both, but MoO3 sure was one of the biggest wastes of money ever.
For more great articles about the game you should definitely read the play examples on GalCiv2.com to whet your appetite even further. They're in the dev journal section.

First, let me say thanks for asking. It's good to know this series hasn't been forgotten by the fanbase here.
Due to ongoing time constraints on both Brad and my parts, it will be recorded and published post-game release (online and North America at least). Watch for it in March. Before that even though, keep watching this site for details on how you and other interested gamers can help in the process!

I would not have purchased or played GalCiv 3 years ago if it was not for the flyer in my copy of MoO3.
I spent something like 9 or 10 hours (until about 4 in the morning) trying to convince myself that MoO3 was "fun". Then I gave up. But the desire for reliving MoO2 and Master of Magic again (and the similar Age Of Wonders series) plus the flyer = purchase just after the release. GalCiv was the game I had waited for.
Another 4 hours or so, and I'll be playing GalCiv 2.

Great article!
I've been a GalCiv fan from the outset - roll on the latest...
