Pre-Order Civ4 from Chips&Bits and get free APOLYTON PLUS
Our Chips&Bits affiliate stats show that people are starting to pre-order civ4 and I'd like to remind them (and everyone ) for our "Chips&Bits/Apolyton Store" offer
|
Quote:
|
It's simple: we give you or friend of yours a free month(or more!) of ApolytonPLUS for every purchase you make from the Apolyton Store or Chips&Bits
The process is easy:
a) make the purchase through the links listed above
b) contact us with the following details: order id, date, item(s) you bought. Dont forget to tell us if you want to add your free month to your existing subscription or if (especially if you're a Lifetime member) you want to make it a gift to a friend.
What you get:
1) On Apolyton Store purchases, 1 month of PLUS subscription for each item purchased
2) On Chips&Bits purchases, 1 month of PLUS for each 20$ spent (so purchasing a 40$ game will give you 2 months of PLUS)

Civ4 pre-order link
http://www.chipsbits.com/cgi-bin/ord...1&add=CIVI4.IR
For single orders of civ4 which currently come at $49, we'll round the.... 2.5 months of our offer to 3
Note: Chips&Bits doesnt offer the "black box" special pre-order edition, but the retail one

I honestly don't think I will pre-order Civ4 since so many people who pre-ordered Civ3 got burned. They were told certain features would be in the game, they bought the game based upon those promises, then key features which are expected in every modern game (like multiplayer) didn't end up in the release version. That's just wrong so I will not preorder anything from this company.

To be honest, the absence of MP was announced well ahead of release, giving people plenty of time to cancel their preorders. But I can certainly see your point, I never ever preorder anythng myself. In fact, I never even make the decision on whether or not to buy a game until it's been out for a while, Civ4 is the only exception (CtP2 would've been as well, except that I got my copy for free so I didn't have to decide anything )

I'm still a bit wary about the fact that so little 'hard' information is out about Civ4 so close to its release - it smells so much like a rush release, but maybe they're just playing it cool and keeping things close to their chest to surprise everyone.
Of course, every time I think that before I've been wrong
But in any case, you can be sure they'll patch it until it works right.
I just hate that $49 price tag - should be $39 like everything else. If they weren't milking the Sid name you can bet it wouldn't sell for $49.

of course they are profiting from the "sid" brand, but most games for 39$ can be played within 50 hours - some FPS games are done by the best players in less than 20. civ4 will give us several hundred to thousand hours of gameplay.
think about all the rainbow six games. they are basically the same each time just with a few new levels and weapons. that's rip-off to me!
as for civ4: i would probably pay up to 200$ for civ4 + all patches + all addons. probably even more! that's something around 1$ for 10 hours of gameplay for me

Not to be a rotten apple in the barrel, but some of us long time civ fans did not find Civ3 to be worth the money we put into it. Certainly not on the scale of Civ1 or Civ2. That's why many old timers will not be pre-ordering this game.

BITE YOUR TONGUE! We'd better hope Firaxis or especially that its publisher does not see that! Egads!

i'd consider myself an old timer too. i was 14 when civ1 came out and that "one more turn" syndrome meant for me that i nearly failed school back in the days.
but yes, i also enjoyed the those games very much and was initially disappointed by the quality of civ3 (although i bought it after patch 1.06 was out) and especially PTW addon.
BUT... the big BUT... only because civ1 and civ2 belong to the best games of all times, does not make civ3 a bit game. sure, it had flaws and was buggy, but the game itself was nonetheless a worthy successor. at least that's what i believe.

if we expect 2 addons + the shipping costs, it's already 160USD for me. that's not far until those 200USD

I second that.
@MarkG: I'd be willing to get another year of PLUS if it were somehow possible to order via PayPal. I only have a german account I can pay with (no credit card) Any ideas?

Oh, sorry - I think we misunterstood each other (argh). I already have a PLUS subscription, and I ordered that via PayPal. What I was trying to say was that I would throw in another year of Poly PLUS if you could tell me of a way to oder a copy of Civ4 via PayPal
On top of the page, right above the path navigation, in the links collection: 3rd line, the one starting with "hall of fame" and "civgroups", right at the end (hope this makes sense)...

I'm afraid not, C&B is not on the official retailers list that was made public today
perhaps we could (both) mail them to get on the program....
