Adam Smith is dead
It is with great sadness that I inform you that Adam Smith, the Apolyton poster, who contributed to SMAC discussions, independent civ projects (IIUC) and to this off topic forum, passed away, peacefully, at home, this past Sunday morning.
I had the privilege of knowing him in person and working with him, as well as seeing his posts here. He was a good economist, and, more importantly, a fine, kind, humorous human being. The world is diminished by his passing.

My understanding is that he suffered from prostate cancer.

this is terrible. His posts always reflected a kind, nuanced person. I think you can clearly give our condolences to his family and friends in case you are in any way familiar with them.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I knew he was sick. Up until a couple of months ago there was hope that things would work out for him. Then things took a turn for the worse.

He and I used to work in the same place. He moved to a different agency about 2 years ago, though I ran into him at a professional conference in January. His wife, apparently informed someone at my agency (his old agency) who sent an email around. We will probably go together to the funeral, which will be on Thursday.

Very, very sorry to hear this. His insight and contributions to this site were always on-point and interesting, and certainly informative. The threads he posted in, and this site in general, were better because of his presence. He'll be missed. My condolences to his friends and family.

Damn. One of these days I gotta get around to picking up that book he recommended. In the meantime, RIP. I'm sorry I didn't know him better.

Oh dear. This is sad news for me even though I didn't know him personally. I can honestly say the world has too few of his intellect and reason. Please pass on my regards (along with those of many others, undoubtedly).
RIP
