Prefered Race?
What race do you prefer to play in Gal Civ 2?

I suppose some argue that there isn't much difference between them if you play them due to the customization. There are subtle differences, and in fact the main reason I prefer the Thalan above all others is that they get a larger home world, minus the small second planet that other races get.

I'd rather have a size 15 planet then a 10-12 with a nearby planet of 4-6 quality. Also picking up a 10% planet quality boost enhances their homeworld further.

Iconian! They look so... weird. Second choice would be Yor.

I'm going with Drengin, nothing like taking over a 17 billion pop planet with a single troop transport.

One thing I have noticed when picking a race and then customizing it is that if you remove some of their built in abilities you actually gain no points. I have not spent the time to go through and figure out which abilities are like this on all the races but I suspect all of them have this.

I am not sure if this is a bug or expected.

The fact that each race can have subtle starting differences as well makes it hard to pick a race. I had no idea the Thalan had a different starting planet than other races for example. This makes me want to start a game with the default race selection for each race just to figure out what the differences are.

Are the total point values for the races even balanced?

Indeed, some of the race default bonuses are in fact part of the ten points allocation to customize them.

But that's clearly fuzzy, I even have the feeling that the point cost of default abilities his highter than the 10 point allocated for a fully customized race (not counting bonuses for Miniaturization or Logistics who could not be customized).

I will try to do some math this evening ...

Also as for the Race Poll, I believe the Yor clearly have an edge for a conquest game with their advantage in logistics and miniaturization
