Ideas for bringing back the game of the month.
Back in the day Apolyton used to have a game of the month where someone would post a game with a random civ on an unknown map then anyone who wanted to could play the save and then post their results. The winner was the guy who got the most points. If enough people are interested then I'd be willing to start up a game of the month segment.

Hey, I'll do this. Just re-started the BTS addiction a few days ago. Up till 3am on work nights ain't so good and I remember this forum used to have a lot more activity... seems kinda dead these days, but I'm generally a SP kinda guy and this sounds like fun.

I started a thread a week or so ago about getting the tri-league back but there didn't seem much interest. I even pm'd one of the moderators, made a few suggestions & said I was willing to do the bullwork for the first few months & I had a game that could be ready to go in a few days. I never got a response.
I'd still like to see the return of the tri-league and I'd would be willing to put in the some time to run it. The map - I'm still fine tuning it but I could have it ready to post in a few days.

Nugog used to run the tri-league tournament and I think he'd be more then willing to help restart the GotM as part of the tri-league.

Yeah, Civ4 has been out for around 4-5 years now and a lot of players have moved on to newer games. Still, I just started getting back into Civ and honestly it is still the best TBS game on the market so there is still a lot of juice left in this game. The Off Topic Forum is by far the most active subforum here at Poly but I think we can easily bring back the on topic with a few interesting things like succession games, game of the month/tri-league, and the standing Friday night MP game.

And as a reminder, (for the standing Friday night MP game)
For this Friday we already have Me, ming, jr, and barono lined up and looking to start around 7 central, and it would be great if we had a few more. Hint Hint Hint.
You guys know where the thread is to post your interest

I'll try to get in on one of your Friday night games though I'd probably be not much more than domination fodder

The best way to learn is by experience, and we have had a lot of inexperienced players so you wouldn't be the first and not the last.

I'll try to make it again but I'll probably be late just like I was last week.

Show when you can. IF it's early enough, we'll usually restart but if not, just grab one of the AIs and see how bad it is.
And While I hope that we'll start then, we usually don't.

Hi duffer,
I got your PM.
I haven't been able to answer you yet b/c of home server problems (harddisk crash) and sickness. It's not unnoticed!
Maybe you can give me a list of things you need to organise the league.
Things like a forum, moderator rights on that forum, ftp accounts, etc. etc.
Robert

I don't think we need a separate forum as we should concentrate all the traffic here so that this forum is as busy as possible. I suggest a stickied thread and maybe an announcement on the front page so that newbies just checking out poly for the first time see that the place has some active Civ stuff going on.

Yeah, drive as much traffic to one place and hope we reach critical mass.

Much greater odds of pulling in folks if everything seems to be happening in one venue.

But I will admit that recently we got a few of the people posting in the GEN forum to join in our weekend MP games. Always like new people joining. The more the better.

My thought was to keep all of these activities here in the gen forum, thus maximizing serendipity -- people joining in who would never even open any other forum.

I saw the extensive thread in MP and was intimidated - far easier to just chat & get invited here

That's the goal of our games.
Your always welcome in future games and now you know where to post.

I will be out of town this weekend, so depending on my schedule (and whether the hotel has wireless) I may or not be available. But the others will be, so check with ming, and post in the MP thread.

To keep this alive, I think this is a great idea. Let us know where you are posting, if you decide to go ahead. Thanks.
