Three bars for the golden wealth within our halls,
Blue for the sea and sky one day to be ruled,
Red for mortal foes doomed to die,
A crown for NYE the leader of men
In the Land of Apolyton where the Shadows lie.
One team to rule them all, One team to find them,
One team to bring them all and in the DemoGame bind them

I'm currently making a couple fo variations on the C4DG icon for the new forum, and these are what I've come up with:

tbh I don't know how to make the bottom part transparent yet but I'll have a look around paint...I like all of them apart from teh middle on tbh but I thought i't be nice to have a look at the design.

Yeah, I like three as well. Nice and simple.

Here is a possible fourth though.

So...when's this storm going to stop gathering and actually DO something? :cute:

Krill

When will GoW fight by themselves instead of relying on a more powerful neighbour to fight for them? :cute:

UnOrthOdOx
February 4, 2008, 12:09
What GoW? I don't see GoW in the C4DG, or in the BTSDG.

Just a storm that's still gathering.

But if you want to dig up history: "none provoke me unpunished". I seem to recall GoW provoking you not once, but twice...yet I can't seem to recall much punishment...;)

Krill
February 4, 2008, 12:23
I doubt Vox would say we are still gathering.

And as to punishment...I can think of a reason for GoW not being in the C4DG or BtSDG... ;)

Krill
February 4, 2008, 12:27
Though I suppose I'm not going about engendering any new members to want to join GS...

UnOrthOdOx
February 4, 2008, 12:34
Uh, yeah. We all decided to try something new instead of reform the same team again and again.

Besides, I'm still waiting for you guys to Trash Trip's Ass. ;) Or AAHZ this time, I suppose.

Sorry for hijacking the thread for a bit there.

Honestly, right now I'm trying to decide between this team or the (presumed) team Beta heads. (barring someone trying a completely odd team, that is, then I'ld feel obligated to help the oddballs)

On one hand, I'm mostly interested in watching this game.

I've always viewed GS as the best team to watch and learn from. :b: (though I hope some folks are enjoying Team Merc in that respect as well) Heck, I learned quite a bit about Civ III from watching you guys when NOT on the team.

In addition, from what I've been able to gather, you and I share very similar play styles. So all the stuff I would normally need to promote, you would likely already have taken care of it. All the better for me to be able to sit and enjoy, and write stuff about the game.

On the other hand, from what I've been able to gather, we share very similar play styles. I'm not sure I would ever really have much to add to this team. Apart from perhaps getting to know you guys better and letting you get to know me.

To anyone interested in joing GS, everyone is welcome. There used to be a method of admitting people, but for this game it is time to start anew (well, except the name...) so just post if you want to join the team, and I'll admit you to the civgroup/forum

edit: forgot the most important part of the post :o

Incidently, I never thanked you for the GL that built Sun Tzu's and made all the GS troops that we rushed during the Vox war vet.

Thanks for that.

Sign me up as well for the megablocks division.

Legos vs Megablocks: An UnO review based off dealing with my kids (10 months, 5 & 9)

Legos have the better men. Period. Hands down. Their hands hold things just fine, they stay together better. The cost is the block look. Which is also part of the charm.

Now, the "Bionicles"... Once together, they are insanely resilient to the kids playing with them. However, some of the connections are too difficult for my oldest to make. Especially this last batch that involved little rubber gaskets you had to use special tweezers to get in. Then force the ball into the socket through the rubber gasked. Whoever designed that should be shot.

Lego vehicles, castles, and the like, however, SUCK. They use many, many, small pieces and are, as a result, a jigsaw puzzle and not meant to be played with. Much to the disappointment of my kids.

Megablocks, on the other hand.

Their castles and vehicles are built using large pre-fabbed pieces, and typically go together quick, and stay together very well.

Their little men, however, have gone down hill lately as they attempted to add knee and elbow joints, and give xyz axis movement to the hips and shoulders. The result is arms and legs that do not stay attached, and end up all over the floor for a baby to come eat. Yet, the figures are highly detailed, just not really designed to PLAY with. Unfortunately, the 5 year old is a huge spiderman fan, so I have to deal with spiderman's and venom's legs all over the house.

Also, recently, they've attempted to replicate some of the bionicles designs. I've not had enough experience with them yet to fully comment, but initial impressions are not great.

Blocks in general:

Why is it we can't buy a bucket of just blocks anymore?

Always got to be some kit to build a specific something.

ZargonX

Why is it we can't buy a bucket of just blocks anymore?

I know! It's really annoying; you used to just be able to buy literal buckets of misc. pieces. Now, like you say, it's all kits. For the Lego anniversary last month they put out a 1000 piece kit, but it's also $250 dollars, which is a little steep for my Lego needs. I did find the Lego virtual constructor set which is like having a bucket of pieces, but virtual. Fun, but not quite the same.

Krill
February 5, 2008, 13:58
UnO Authorized :b:

Actually, while I love Lego, I also like K'nex for just building structures. I remember building the "Big Ball Factory" when I was about 10; the builing was taller than I was :b: Loved it.

UnOrthOdOx
February 5, 2008, 13:59
If you're fortunate enough to have an actual Lego Store near you you can buy them by the pound, but as you say, they are a wee bit pricey. That 1000 pieces works out to $.25 each. Not happenin. Maybe I'll find a bucket of used ones at the swap meet this year.

Construx were the best. Too bad you can't find em anymore.

http://www.thisoldtoy.com/fisher-price/dept-7-playsets/f-construx/a-construx-index.html

I built me plenty a GI Joe base with those. My older brother and I also used to build swords out of em and whack each other. They were that tough. And hurt...

ZargonX
February 5, 2008, 14:23
Oh man, I loved Construx. I still have a giant stash of them stored away (with the Legos, of course!). And yes, they did make awesome bases and crazy vehicles for GI Joes. Especially if you could find the camo pieces ;)

Locutus
February 6, 2008, 21:38
The admin/moderator status of who/what? You mean me?

I can fine-tune exactly who has access to which forums, including for myself. As with previous team DGs I've been in, once I've set up a new private team forum and I'm satisfied all is working fine, I disable my own access to that forum. E.g. I posted a few times in the RoC forum yesterday to respond to some administrative issues, but right now I no longer have access to it. Unless people start setting off proverbial nukes I'll rely on other staff members and Keygen to keep an eye on the other team forums and deal with any issues that may arise.

Of course, everyone will just have to take my word for it that I'm playing fair, but if you don't trust the owners/admins of the site you're running a DG on you're gonna have a hard time running any kind of game ;)

(Of course, you could ask Solver or Dan to double-check on me but I can probably run circles around them as far as hacking goes so I'm not sure how valuable that is ;))

I haven't paid attention to this after I joined. It has to do with some other activities.

There are two teams I have in mind, this one and Beta's. My guess is that Beta's will be pretty much like Sarantium now. While I generally like the athmosphere in Sarantium, I'm thinking about going for something new now. Only I'm not sure yet.

Any idea of what this team is going to be like?

I don't think we'll have a specific theme, but as Krill says we'll be an open and laid back team and hope to have a lively forum. We have a very diverse crew so far with a few people that haven't played together much before, so we hope to make friends and learn from each other. Everyone is more than welcome to join us: newbies and vets, lurkers and players, Americans, Europeans, antipodeans -- even Hagenezen ;)

DeyReepher already joined our group but has since been removed by the Apolyton administration, he will not be playing in this game (the reasons of which are between him and the administration -- some others may also have an idea, but that's not a topic suitable for public discussion).

Not really. I LOVE builderers.

Join a builderer team and it's a lot easier to convince them certain doom is coming if they don't build a huge military than it is to convince a warmonger team that certain doom is coming if they don't start building at least a few libraries. And I've come to learn that once people HAVE the units, they tend to like to USE them. Thus builders swiftly become warriors.

Besides, with builders on the team, I can ignore all that boring stuff and focus on whoopin someone's ass.

I was first looking for a French team, but the Francophones seem to have given up on demogaming after the first intersite DG and the MZO DG or they vanished in the general crowd, without a team of their own. No opportunity to practice my newly learned French a bit.

Hi there,

I'm new to civ4 and would love to join and mostly watch and learn - maybe throw in the odd rookie wisdom remark. ;)

I'm not entirely new to the genre and Apolyton however, I was a big SMAX (Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire) nut back a few years ago and turned out to be the Morgan turnplayer in the 3rd AC Democracy Game back in 2004 after the two main guys went kind of AWOL... (very little MP experience otherwise).

No idea/experience how MP and this PitBoss stuff works beyond the basic introduction - back in 2004 it was good-old PBEM...

Aidun
February 24, 2008, 11:47
Herzlich Wilkommen AndiD!

I am a relic from the old PBEM age as well. However, relic, the C4 MP DG, the last DG before the C4 Warlords Bureaucracy Game is still going on actively, with high involvement, at least as far as my own team there is concerned. So PBEM is not that oldfashioned We're just in this transition phase now.

In any case, you need to join the civgroup and Krill will authorize you.

Krill
February 29, 2008, 09:08
We have an idea of what we would like to play with, but as PAL and TI have only just recieved their private fora we should give them a little time to decide what settings they would like to play with.

Also, how were you intending the vote to be carried out?

RobWorham
February 29, 2008, 13:42
I thought a public poll on each required setting with voting AND posting by team leaders only.

Teams should discuss and vote by member in their own private forums.

We should also set a timer for each poll to save things dragging on for everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...................... ;)
