MAC SMAC playing PC SMAC

Has anyone else been having problems playing online against a PC Player? I am pretty sure its impossible but can't see that highlighjted anywhere on the box, manual or readme's.

Network play between a Mac and a PC is not possible. SMAC on the PC side was programed using Microsoft's DirectPlay for networking, which is not crossplatform compatible and has been the bane of Mac gamers everywhere. http://apolyton.net/forums/mad.gif

I thought it was that... perhaps when microsoft get broken up (and the source is opened) Mac coders can write a workaround http://apolyton.net/forums/smile.gif

I love watching reports of their demise now...
