Sorry i meant to post this yesterday.
Simply goto Multiplayer > Direct IP
Put
stg-ptbs.ath.cx:2060
in the address field, leave the password field blank and click connect.
That should be all you need. After that you just select your civ, put in your pwd, ect...
Not that this has anything to do with the game, but I just purchased the following books:
Alastair Reynolds "Zima Blue & other stories"
Alastair Reynolds" The Prefect"
Tad Williams " The war of the flowers"
In addition to that I bought a new pair of trekking shoes and two quite nice T-shirts. :D
so glad you were able to share this amazing news with us :p
next time you do your groceries, could you also get 350ml Black Sambuca for me, thank you :b:
Hey, I'm just following Keygens invite in the OP :p

I have the ability to add or remove teams at my whim, as is required to be the person running the game :) I could AI someone if it came to that (and then someone else could join as them, or retire them, or whatever). But that's obviously not a preference...

Can't We just throw it open first ? See if there's anybody out there willing to play it either on their own or as a group.
We don't know how it will change the game removing them, it could give an extra chunk of free land to somebody or remove another teams only close potential trade partner etc.
Zoid
November 21, 2007, 08:20
Well, it couldn't hurt I suppose... Give it two weeks and if no one's interested remove the civ then. A removal will affect the game in one way or another, but what can you do? You can't force people to play... We'll have to treat it as a random event, plauge or something... ;)

I say no Ian, but I see your point.
The biggest hurdle in these games is KEEPING INTEREST. Another two week delay is just going to make this situation worse.
Get rid of them and move on.
Or tank this game and start another, and dont accept teams unless they have at least 3 turnplayers. (or more)

If the Goonies have no player they need to be removed from the game.

I am with Ian on this one. I find that eliminating a civ is almost as unbalancing as letting the AI run it, for the reason Ian mentioned.
But if no one comes forward to take it over (has anyone tried recruiting??? - if not - I will...), then I favour nuking over the AI.
Give me a few days to see if I can rustle up some new players.

Hey folks, people authorized to the goonies.
Sorry, but I had some **** happen in RL that made this pace of pitboss too much for me to be able to follow, so I had to let this game slide. Didn't know goonies had all dropped out.
Unfortunately, the pace would still be too much for me to play or I'ld just do it.

FYI, the game is registered on CivStats. Thanks to this pitboss related site, all players can know the real time game status and other useful informations :
The game name is Civ4WDG.
http://www.civstats.com/viewgame.php?gameid=743
You will need to register yourself first as a personal player. Go to 'Create Account' in the above right corner.
Once the process finished, you can register 'your game's leader', the password is the first main word of your team's name.

Starting this weekend I'm on vacation for 2-3 weeks. So the Phoenician civ (formerly known as the Goonies) won't be played during that time. I don't think I'll find internet hubs that allow me to log on with my portable. There's no substitute player so that's the way things are.

If I understand correctly the CivStats records, eirich is at war with snoopy, who is doing NOTHING against him and consequently eirich are beating a civ with virtually no costs.
IMO this is clearly unbalancing the game and I should convert him to an AI.
What do you say, folks ?
Paddy
November 7, 2008, 19:50
well yes it should have been turned to ai a long time ago, but that did not happen, they have been allowed to just ignore their lands and this game for in excess of 20 turns in a row now
so if they are allowed to be apathetic in their turns, why allow the ai to save them
personally I would have prefer to see their civ removed, but have been through that discussion too many times, so we decided to do something about it using the game mechanics, not the forums
to quote one of our lads "if the much lauded staff of this site do not have the kahooners to play the save then they need to be removed"
war was not declared till your post that they had missed 17 turns in a row
we waited a turn or two more
sent a message of our intent
then began a slow march through their lands
"decimation of the ones who hold up the game through apathy" is our motto for this war

AI them and let the surrounding teams squabble over the spoils............

Snoopy's civ is now an AI :b:

sorry to see your civ go this way, but life is like that
we always hoped that once we found you as neighbours that we would have a most epic war across centuries, but that was not meant to be
well your lads are accounting of themselves very well

Could the UDD-nation be turned into AI, please?
I'm moving to Japan in 1,5 weeks and I don't think there is active members in our team to continue.

If there is not other solution available, yes, of course.

You're spoiling for a war with the Delian League?!!
Not really. We have enough on our hands right now, but we're always keen to extend our empire

It seems that Delian League is not playing since April 24.
Some members of my team think that one more team under an AI will definately kill this game :(

SpamYard team had declare this game ended consequence of the lack of interest that many teams had demonstrated during it. We do not had more intentions of dedicating time to it and this include the host of the game, Astro.
We are very disappointed with the members of some teams had disappear. We in spamyard team there had been always at least 4 players available and helping.
We consider that there's had been no winner because he game was still in earlys years of it. So, although some civ had a better performance by now, that still do not guarantee to win this game.
Just for the record, if you someday take part of a demo/team game, just make sure that you are really planning to play it, at least to show a little of respect to those that had dedicated so many time to it. As Astro had. And if you had or want to leave it, at least take the task of finding someone to replace you.
Had a nice day.

Don't be bitter Magno, I think it's inevitable that interest will wane over the course of 3 years (I don't even remember when we started), and it's impossible to demand that people stay for the duration. A lot of things can happen in three years. The fact that we got the wrong size map and a few false starts (not to mention patch troubles) didn't help either. I think it was a good game and I'm not saying that just because the Maoris won :p

Thats kind of a cop out, if teams don't start with multiple turn players who at least plan on sticking around for a few years, then they shouldn't be a team.
I had a feeling that the 10 or 11 teams we had was a recipe for disaster, and I was right.
And we had people dropping and not playing all along, it didn't just start recently.
That's kind of elitist? Don't you think? I say that all who want to play should be given the chance. I'd rather have a few people drop out than have games with über-committed Civ nazis who b1tch and moan when people lose interest for one reason or another...

Now Im a Nazi? OK, great way to reply. Or inother words: "I don't have a good counter arguement so lets resort to name calling"
Some of us don't like spending YEARS working on a game and having it end because the people who thought it was a good idea to begin with can't be bothered to satify there initial commitments.
This problem could have been easily solved by limiting the number of teams, and concentrating potential turn players on fewer teams.
How does that limit people who want to play? So instead of 11 teams having one or maybe two turnplayers, 5 or 6 teams have 3 or 4 turnplayers.......
Everyone is still playing :p
Thats all Im going to contribute on this subject, because your attitude is the reason why Demo Games never finish around here, or in most cases even get close.

Oh well, thanks everyone for playing and making the effort.
Special thanks to Astro for hosting and all the baggage that goes with that commitment.
It was fun while it lasted........
If this game is over - well thanks everyone who played this far.
And Astro - a big :b: and :unworthy: to you.
Thanks for being a brilliant host.

Thankyou :) It was for me a pleasure to host this game ;)
I would like to give some personal thoughts about DG games (I've yet played some in this forum) :
The paces of those DG are too slow and tend to naturally kill the games, because increasingly lack of interest, players quitting, etc. For me, the ideal pace is 1 turn/24 hours, set automatically to 48 hours/turn in case of wars (with a dedicated mod which shorts the remain time when the first team at war has played) . In this manner, games last about 1 and a half year (It's my experience with individual multiplayer pitboss games).
The teams should be formed only by guys who are close between. It better garantees long term playing. Only few known and serious teams should be admitted to play.
For DG games, only pangea (or close to pangea) maps should be taken, because more wars and more interest : the map chosen for this C4WDG was clearly a mistake.
And finally, thanks to you, guys, who have played the game until this unfortunate end :b:
Teams need available players.
That is the big problem.
If teams had a number of players from the start - not so many issues IMO.
The problem with restrictions is it becomes an "old boys club" and new players feel stifled.
Southern Cross missed maybe 2 or 3 turns in the entire game.
It is about the people - not the number of teams.
(BTW - RobWorham and Zoid = :unworthy: )
The problem with 1 turn every 24 hours - then your team members need to be in the same timezones.
Using Southern Cross as an example, we were in NZ, PNG, Portugal and Sweden. No way we could discuss turns in a 24 hr turn period.
Anyway - thanks to all. It was fun while it lasted.
Oh - yeah - and we were going to win.
I guess if it's over then SC are ahead on points so are the winners - congrats to you :b:
I have to say PAL (being me due to everyone else moving on to BTS) hadn't given up hope of victory yet :)

I'm very sorry to see this game ending prematurely :(
I'm not sure if my sudden disappearance led to that decision, if it did you have my apology.
I've moved to a new house and had to wait for over a month for the line to be transferred (I thought it would take a few days) so I had no access to the Internet from home. To add to all this I got pretty sick during the past 3 weeks or so, I spent some of this time at home, mostly in bed. I should had informed you of this but I guess I was pretty occupied packing up back then.
My interest for this game never fade out, and I'm still pretty interested but I presume it is too late...
