View Full Version : Should we add civs run by single persons?

I was wondering if you would find it a good idea to include a couple civilizations run exclusively by single persons. Not many really, just 1-2. Think of it as civilizations run by totalitarian regimes, run by a single authority, the dictator or tyrant if you prefer.

Do you think such an addition would add to the fun or simply spoil the fun?

Think of it a little...

OK. Thunk.

No. For two reasons:

1. This is a demo game and by definition this runs contrary to that philosphy. You may remember earlier when the turn timer debate was going on, and the point being that we need to leave sufficient time for 'demo' stuff. That is what the game is all about.

2. When that person is unavailable to play - the turn timer will max out delaying the game. With multi-player teams, someone should be available to play the turn in a timely manner.

3. If this person is not abailable por playing, the team civ wil became an easy cake for their neigborhoods.

I think if an active and reliable person is used then we should have no regular delays and if on vacation a temporary replacement could fill in.

I don't think the demo/team spirit will be affected either since we're talking for 9 teams and 1/2 single person controlled civs only.

It could add some additional tone to the game, it is just that since it has never been done before we might entering unknown territory.

I would support a minimum team size of around 3. We're going to lose people to attrition as the game goes on, I suspect, and there might be 1 player civs for a time in there. But it should only be until more bodies can be recruited for the teams with fewer.

I like your ideas Keygen, but I think a 2 person team would be more prudent. Having said that I personally have no problem with a single person team playing, as long as they are 'active and reliable'.

I see no reason why a team has to operate as a democracy, internal machinations are just that, internal!!

No,

one person does not form a team.
We have regular pitboss games for those who want to control a civ without others mendling.

It is a team game, but in the past have teams ended up being just one person anyway?

I'm unsure - but I tend to agree with Rob, that 2 person teams would be preferable to single player teams, if we need to do this at all.

Having said that we now have, what, 9 teams - do we need any more?

9 is good, but I'm ok with more TEAMs joining the game.

It's hardly a democracy game if we begin with some single-player teams.
