View Full Version : Severe ISP Blues, but I'm back

The next two paras were also posted to a General Forum thread I started on the 11th Jan.

Shortly after my last post here, my internet connection died, and I've been offline ever since. I've finally had to start up a dialup account (gasp) as Wanadoo (= Pile o' Poo) screwed up an 8 Meg line upgrade, couldn't fix it or put me back to anything faster than 0 Meg, and it'll take WEEKS to even release the line to start up with a new ISP - which is what I'm having to do.

So avoid Wanadoo, to anybody in Europe that might be unlucky enough to fall into their incompetent clutches, and be wary of LLU (Local Loop Unbundling) technology, and if your ISP offers you an 8M ADSL upgrade, be prepared for disappointment and major downtime if it doesn't work.

____

So I've got a dialup account for now which I'm sharing with the household landline, so my online time will be limited for a while. I'll try and catch up with stuff over the next few days, but it might be several weeks before I can be fully active.

Ugh, that sucks. Welcome back & good luck getting that fixed up so you can get off of dialup.

Hey CH, hope you get back online with a good connect sometime soon. :)

Thanks, guys. When my line clears I'll be starting up with a smaller ISP where you hopefully get to speak to real people and they give a damn about the customers.

The irony is that I've been reading Terry Pratchett's latest paperback release "Going Postal" about the Clacks (telegraph system & the discworld's internet) going down and everyone having to send letters again. As my bulky data transfer now depends on putting CD's in padded envelopes that was some synchronicity.

People in India, probably. Sorry, I'm a bit jaded on that.

Yeah, Going Postal is a good book. I prefer "Thud!" though.

I hadn't seen Thud in paperback, yet, but I've got the board game. I just need to persuage my GF to try it. It looks like chess with wierd moves on a 'fat cross' with all the pieces either the dwarf or troll UU, and played over two legs.
