What type of map do we want?
Continents? Terra? Pangea? Other?
We seem to all agree on "random with oversight" being the method, but which map script shall be used?

I voted other: abstain. Or banana.
The thing is, I don't really care for which map is chosen. Continents (e.g. 3 of them) would certainly be interesting. Terra for sure as well. I wouldn't go for e.g. highlands but that would be cool too... and I could even see us playing a known map too. Islands... yummie ;)
Basically, it doesn't matter to me. We'll have to adjust strategy to whatever map we get.

I don't want Pangea - I'd like Optics/Astronomy to matter.
Terra intrigues me, but I do see the potential for it to result in an early rush-fest, and that would suck. It would be pretty cool if we could actually get to the colonization part, though...
Which leaves me with my usual choice: continents.
I've yet to play Highlands or Oasis or any of the other scripts.
No vote from me yet, I intend to discuss, ponder, and then vote.

Damn, Islands should've have its own option. I forgot it. That's a fairly standard choice (the old archipelago).

Highland certainly is very interesting, although a bit tougher than normal. Ice age is one of my personal favourites... Terra is king in SP, though.
Arrian, try an Islands map, these can be really good! But be sure to play one level higher than normal, the AI is not so skilled at them.

I would just go with continents; it is random enough, as Cort Haus showed in the General Forum.
I would love to play a PBEM/pitboss on a highlands map, but it just does not seem right, playing on a map that has no major seas...

Inland sea could be very interesting as well: the ability to reach everyone right from the start, but with Frigates and Galleons the game really starts...

Haven't voted yet, for i am undecided for continents or terra. They can both generate very interesting late games. Problem is, terra would need Barbs (so that its not so easy to colonize the new land) and that I believe, is not decided yet.

Barbs: Without them might be fairest (no huts), but I prefer to have them. Not raging though, but on a higher level barbs will be harsh enough.
Terra could be very interesting as well, I agree. But not without barbs!

Barbs :b: Imagine if a team started on their own island continent with no barbs. No need for any military at all for quite some time (a warrior per city). Blah, no thanks.

I'm willing to play a classic continents game, all the rest set to medium or similar, except size (Size is a function of the number of players, IMHO).

My initial reaction is continents, for the reason Arrian mentioned: it incorporates both land and sea aspects, and makes both matter.
I'll hold off voting, though, until some more input is given.

Continents... with some judicious tweaking. If the game lasts long enough, for instance, it might be interesting to see air power take a role!!

Continents. Just please not of the typical Sirianish 6+1 blend, but pre-checked. A collection of m landmasses (m > 1) with n<sub>1</sub>, n<sub>2</sub>, ..., n<sub>m</sub> non-barbarian inhabitants (n<sub>i</sub> > 1 for all i). With other words ... 2+2+3 :D.
