View Full Version : Does anybody knows how to make AI more agressive?

I like Civ wars. But they are not too much in Civ4. I made about 20 play test and found that on standart map / noble level with 10-18 civs there are
1. 1-3 war until 1000 AD
2. 10-15 war until game end
They are not AI vs Human wars only but all wars. AI vs AI and AI vs Human. It's not enough for me. I want
1. 10-15 war until 1000 AD.
2. About 100 wars during the game time.
Civ3 did it. But not Civ4. Does anybody know how to correct this issue? Maybe some XML variables or Python script are needed to be changed? Which ones. Does Firaxis men or someone else can tell me the truth?

Have you tried turning on Aggressive AIs?

Just play on tougher difficulty.
Aggressive civs will more frequently go to war with a weaker civ, which you will be if you play on something like Monarch

Yes I try. But it make war probability larger just a bit. 15-20 wars during the game instead of 10-15 wars when "Agressive AIs" is checked off. Is there some way to change AI's "war needed" calculations to soft the condition of begining war? Not vs human but vs all players?
I saw some variables in xml-file named "LeaderHeadInfos" such as
iMaxWarRand
iMaxWarNearbyPowerRatio
iMaxWarDistantPowerRatio
iMaxWarMinAdjacentLandPercent
iLimitedWarRand
iLimitedWarPowerRatio
iDogpileWarRand
iMakePeaceRand
iDeclareWarTradeRand
What do they do? Maybe I could try to change them for game balancing, but I need to know principles of game mechanisms using them. Can you tell me about it?

But AI civs would have the same strength and will not go to war with each other.

My first game I played on settler, and about 1000 years into the game, I got attacked by Mr. Montezuma.
I've played severals days worth of games since, on games ranging from warlord to noble, and I've yet to be attacked again. The other civs are fighting, and they ask me to join in.... but they never attack me.
I'm starting to wonder if something is broken, because cultural and diplomatic victories are way too easy to achieve.

I htink it's dependent on AI personality- the Mongols won't leave me alone! Bastards!

Well, if they are too easy, just ramp up the difficulty level, right? :)

I've been attacked a lot on Monarch difficulty level. The Spanish, Aztecs, Incas, Chinese and Japanese have all attacked me for no reason other than I might have held land they wanted and appeared weak enough to conquer.
I believe it very much depends on how hard they evaluate you would be to conquer. If they dont think they could take you, they wont attack. If they feel good about their chances, they may attack out of the blue, especially if they share a border with you. This makes having friends VERY important in Monarch and higher.

Yes. If chess AI is too weak, just remove half of your pieces from the board.
I like the Civ4's AI. I don't want to be always in war or play with AI's handicap. Just more wars is all I want. Just for fun.
