View Full Version : The Last Song of the Beach Boys

Ljube

The age of the untuned Euphoriscian songs is at an end. Field Marshal Bongo of the Blood Oath Horde and his Bood Force Battle Horde have successfully charged the Bard final stand at the Rampart of Beach Boys.

Here is the picture of the charge of the Horde ancient cavalry under direct Bongo's command.

That is our equivalent to the Bayeux Tapestry for the Norman conquest of England.

the reports did never mention horsemen with mails nor crusaders. But it is a very good picture anyway.

Glorious victory indeed and finally we have seen the horde's troops ot engage in a serious fight not just skirmishes.

Ah, great. Thanks for nothing BOH. Now we have Bardian refugees running everywhere in all the other civs. Laying around smoking reefer, panhandling, playing folk songs, generally being a burden on our social systems.

If you truly cared about our world you would not have done this to us.

Be careful that they don't subvert you from inside. It has happened before, you know.

Sigh.

Defeated militarily we may be, but the Bards are never defeated in spirit.

Where there be song, there be Bards. Where there be stories told over ale in a tavern, there be Bards.

Where there be joyous shouts of victory and anthems of rejoicing, there be Bards. Where there be sorrowful hymns and mournful dirges, there be Bards.

The Bardic Nation may be gone from this world, by treachery and deceit, but the Bard shall live on, in the hearts and voices of all people of this land torn asunder by strife and chaos. We look back on this time not in sadness, but with a glad heart, that our song was able to be heard by the ears of the many, and sung by the lips of the brave. Long after the fall of the Conquerors, shall the Bard remain. Beyond the Row of Desolation, shall the Bard remain. After the pacification of the Horde, shall the Bard remain. Toppled be the towers of Babel, shall the Bard remain. To the earth Dibbler's sausages may go, shall the Bard remain.

So long live the Song, live the Bard.

Let the Song be heard!

So Golden Bear, it was Babylon who provided the Bards with means to support their overextended military. The Horde auditors were wondering about that particularity, knowing for sure that Bards had at least 20 units. Thank you for your confession Golden Bear. We hope that the Horde will inherit the Bards and become at least as treasured as them if not more treasured. I hope Babylon understand these words clearly and take them seriously, for your sake Golden Bear and that of Beta and other Babylonians.

James, Ljube, you are personally trying to humiliate me and I won't settle for that.

Show some class towards the people you defeat. This is not third grade. They were your friends once.

Bard players were good guys and you should shake their hands and pat them on the back.

I'm not trying to humiliate you. I thought your post was an admition that Babylon had been supplying Euphorica with the money they required to support their units.

Did I get your post wrong? If so, I'm sorry about my reaction, but the question stands: Who provided them with money?

I consider them my friends. I doubt a game will change that. Also, I think I did show class towards the people I defeated.

I doubt a pat would help here. It would actually make things worse. However, I do acknowledge that Bard players are good guys and that I would like to shake their hands.

Thank you all for your feedback.

Ljube, that is a very measured response and I agree with most of it. You are probably right at the end and my only excuse, not explanation, but excuse, is that I did and do feel hurt by things that were said and also about things said about the Bards. Thanks for the feedback.

Aqualung, thank you also. You are not privy to all the inputs that I have had, and it probably would not make any difference.

Chrisius, I would like to placate you also. I just don't know how. I just can hope for some understanding, and if that isn't there, tolerance.

Thanks for your responses, they were actually surprisingly restrained.

Indeed they didn't. Nor our conversion to Christianity.

However, we be Christians, converted to the right religion by Jesus of Antioch during the siege of that city. That was one of the reasons that siege was abandoned.

Euphorica has been self supporting untill the end. We gave more than we received. So be it.

The extrapolation that was applied here, is again based on false assumptions, for truth, again, is not what some want to see.

Reality is stated as being the way things are, but everybody has a different point of view. Some make an effort to broaden their perspective and come to understand more. Some remain to be short sighted.

There's no wrong or right in that. I have once been deeply impressed by seeing a perfectly happy, poor Peruvian farmer. His poorness was my point of view, he considered himself rich. It was I who had to travel halfway around the world, who suffered the poorness, as I could not be satified by remaining in my small ecosystem. What works for him doesn't necesarily work for me and the other way around.

There is however a right and wrong on judging and taking actions based on an arrogant state of mind considering your point of view the perfect point of view/ truth and not looking beyond that window.

Enjoy your games. I choose not to participate in any other team. I have a dfferent point of view on how (team) games are played. This doesn't work for me.

"Point of view" is sometimes choice. You choose to look at some as arrogant, but under some points of view yours could be considered arrogant as well. I choose not to look at you this way.

Thanks for playing. I enjoyed you and your team and getting to know all of you. Learned a few things along the way also about the personalities involved...some lessons were not easy. Still, I wish you and all The Bards the best. Hope to see you all in the first Civ4DG.

Well since we're quoting lyrics, here's one that perfectly describes DR's passions, from the vaults of the Great God of the Desolators himself:

"And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead"

Farewell Euphorica. Not a tear has been shed in the land of the Desolation Row for your passing, for you are responsible for bringing war down upon our fair lands and the untold shedding of Desolation Row blood. Our captains and generals rejoice in your destruction.

So long chaps, and well played.....I hope some of you find refugee status at Babylon and play on :b:

One day Inanna, Goddess of Heaven and Earth, decides to visit her sister, Erishkegal, Goddess of the Underworld. It is heavy upon her heart that the people of Euphorica that have past on be well. Down the rocky path of spirit we go.

As we travel toward the deep realms, we see a huge gate blocking the path through a cleft in the rocks. There is a gatekeeper on the other side of the gate, and he challenges Inanna. "Go away! You are not the dead! Only the dead can enter here!" Inanna replies, "I am a very powerful Goddess; I do as I wish and go where I like!"

We walk on along the downward path. Soon we approach a second gate, with gatekeeper on the other side. "Go back" he cries "You are not the dead! Only the dead can enter here!" Inanna replies, "I am a very powerful Goddess; I do as I wish and go where I like!" The guard replies, "Well, I see that you are powerful, but even so, if you are to enter here, you must leave your diadem at this gate." Inanna removes the jewel that hangs by a golden chain on her forehead, that she may continue her journey.

We follow Inanna further along the path. We come to yet another gate blocking the way. And again a gatekeeper proclaims, "Go back! You are not the dead! Only the dead can enter here!" And Inanna replies again, "I am a very powerful Goddess; I do as I wish and go where I like!" And again the guard retorts, I see that you are powerful Nevertheless, in order to pass, you must leave your necklace at this gate." Inanna removes her glittering necklace and is allowed through the gate.

As Inanna walks on, we follow her, always down and down. Around the next bend lies yet another gate and gatekeeper. "Go back! You are not the dead! Only the dead may enter here!" "I am a very powerful Goddess; I do as I wish and go where I like!" "Nevertheless, in order to pass, you must leave your shawl at this gate." Inanna removes her billowing silk shawl and drops it at the opening gate.

On down the way, around turns and twists, deep into the warming heart of the world. And then, another gate, and a keeper who cries again, "Go back! You are not the dead! Only the dead can enter here!" And the reply: "I am a very powerful Goddess; I do as I wish and go where I like!" And the retort: "I see that you are powerful, nevertheless, you must give up your belt in order to pass this gate." Inanna unbuckles her jeweled belt and hands it to the gatekeeper. He opens the gate.

Yet another gate guards the way to the underworld. And yet another keeper cries out, "Go back! You are not the dead! Only the dead may enter here!" And Inanna replies yet again, "I am a very powerful Goddess; I do as I wish and go where I like!" And yet again a forfeit is demande: "You must leave your skirt if you are to pass." Inanna removes her long, tiered skirt, and passes through the gate.

Undeterred, Inanna continues down the path, and we continue with Her. And we come to the final gate to the Underworld. The gatekeeper cries, demanding the sandals of Inanna. She walks out of them, and naked, enters the domain of her sister, Erishkegal. To give these up is truly to enter the realm of the dead.

Inanna sits and talks with her sister. They discuss the family and then come to the plaight of Euphorica. The sisters tour the Underworld, regarding all that is past and over, all that is in the process of dissolving into elements that will be recombined. Inanna finishes her talking and touring having looked in on many of the Euphoricans that have made the passage to this place.

She announces that she is ready to return to earth and heaven now.

Let us give to each other these symbols, sharing, saying, "The water of life. The food of life."

(drums beat throughout Heaven and Earth)

We walk with Inanna back up along the path out of the Underworld. We follow the beat of the drum leading us back to life. At each gate we take back what we put down.

(drums fade out) As Inanna returns to earth, she ponders the fate of the Euphoricans and looks out over her beloved Babylonians.

Inanna resumes Her throne, the weight of her peoples lives heavy in her heart. May the guardians be praised that Inanna is there for us.

Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth, we thank you for taking us with you on your journey. May we be with You always. Hail and farewell.

Spirit of the North, of earth, of body, we thank you for your gift of wholeness, of knowing Who We Are in these bodies. Hail and farewell.

Spirit of the West, of water, of emotion, we thank you for the love and caring that rescues us and brings us life. Hail and farewell.

Spirit of the South, of fire, of will, we thank you for the will to support each other. Hail and farewell.

Spirit of the East, of air, of intellect, we thank you for the depth and wisdom of the unconscious that makes us whole. Hail and farewell.

The circle is open but unbroken. May the peace of the Goddess go ever in our hearts. Merry meet and merry part and merry meet again. Blessed be.
